Employment Coordinator

At Commonpoint, community is at the heart of everything we do. With more than 90 program sites and flagship locations in Little Neck, The Bronx, Bayside, Forest Hills, East Elmhurst, and Jamaica, we proudly serve over 125,000 individuals each year. From early childhood to older adulthood, we support people from all walks of life on their journeys from crisis to stability and empowerment.

Our wide range of programs, spanning social services, education, and recreation, reflects our mission to build a more connected, inclusive, and thriving community for all.

To continue advancing our impact across the communities we serve, Commonpoint is hiring an Employment Coordinator within the Adult Workforce Department.

The Adult Workforce Department plays a vital role in employment and support programs serving individuals seeking long-term employment. The individual hired as Employment Coordinator will assist our DYCD Community Resources from the Employment and Development Program (CRED) and general adult workforce clients in adhering to the needs, requirements, and compliance procedures of our Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD)-funded contracts.

Responsibilities include conducting client intakes, managing post-training activities leading to employment, facilitating workshops, and other duties related to our DYCD grant funders. This position reports directly to the CRED Director/Employment Coordination Manager. In addition to addressing various case management needs, Employment Coordinators will help general adult workforce clients obtain and retain competitive employment, connect them with benefits, and perform other responsibilities aligned with their case management, vocational, and employment goals.

This position is based in Elmhurst, Queens, with a typical schedule of 9:00 am-5:00 pm or 10:00 am-6:00 pm. One Saturday per month is required during active client sessions. Flexibility is critical, as occasional travel with an advance notice to our Bronx site and evening hours may be needed to support program activities and participant needs.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive case management to CRED participants from enrollment through credential attainment, internship placement, and employment, and post employment retention, ensuring alignment with DYCD standards and performance benchmarks.
  • Conduct structured intakes, eligibility screenings, and assessments to develop individualized service plans that support successful completion of nationally recognized credential programs.
  • Monitor participant attendance, academic progress, and certification testing; coordinate exam scheduling and support students in obtaining industry-recognized credentials.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employer and internship partners across Queens and the Bronx to secure quality internship placements aligned with participants' training tracks.
  • Deliver job readiness and employment services, including resume development, interview preparation, job search strategy, professional networking guidance, and direct employer referrals.
  • Support participants in overcoming employment barriers by coordinating referrals to internal and external social services in collaboration with case management teams.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up and retention services to participants after placement, implementing strategies that promote long-term employment success and address barriers to job retention.
  • Track retention milestones (e.g., 30-, 60-, 90-, 180-, and 360-day) and employment outcomes, ensuring timely and accurate documentation in program databases and reporting systems.
  • Track and achieve quarterly enrollment, internship placement, job placement, and retention targets in accordance with DYCD contract requirements.
  • Collect, verify, and maintain accurate participant and employment documentation, including case notes, credential verification, internship confirmations, placement verifications, pay stubs, retention follow-ups, and other required records; ensure timely and accurate data entry in required reporting systems to support program compliance, performance tracking, and funder reporting requirements.
  • Implement and administer participant surveys to evaluate program effectiveness, participant satisfaction, internship & employment outcomes, using findings to support continuous program improvement.
  • Collaborate with program staff to meet monthly and quarterly performance goals and contribute to program improvement, reporting, and funding proposals as needed.
  • Assess participants' current banking practices, including use of fintech platforms (e.g., Cash App, prepaid cards, digital wallets), and provide financial coaching to transition clients toward traditional banking relationships that support credit building, direct deposit, long-term savings, and overall financial stability.
