About I’RAISE I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation, founded in the heart of the North Bronx in 2012, began as a mentoring program for at-risk female youth living in New York City Authority Housing. Under the visionary leadership of CEO Shanequa Moore, the organization quickly expanded its reach and impact. Shanequa, a Bronx native who overcame poverty and significant life challenges, was inspired to give back to her community, creating a resilient organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and youth.

,

I'RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation is a Bronx-based nonprofit that has spent more than a decade building mental health and wellness support for young people of color and their families. We serve more than 30,000 children each year across New York City schools.

On Saturday, August 8, we will be at Good Neighbors Fest — a free community festival hosted by Good Neighbors Community Outreach Agency and New Testament Temple Church of God, with more than 2,000 residents expected. We will spend the day offering free wellness check-ins to children, teens, and parents, and connecting families to programs and resources.

We are looking for eleven volunteers to join us. No experience is required, and nothing clinical is involved. We provide full training.

The day at a glance

Saturday, August 8, 2026

  • 3350 Seymour Avenue, Bronx, NY 10469

Festival hours 12 00 PM – 8 00 PM. Our table is open 12 00 PM – 7 00 PM.

Training Tuesday, August 4, one hour. Please plan to attend.

Role 1 — Wellness check-ins with children and teens 3 volunteers needed What You Would Do
  • Invite children and teens to take a short wellness check-in on a tablet — friendly, never pushy
  • Make sure a parent or caregiver has given permission before any young person under 18 begins
  • Sit or stand alongside them, read the questions aloud if they would like, and help with the tablet
  • Celebrate them for finishing, give them something to take home, and walk them over to the sign-up table
  • Write down each check-in as it happens
What You Would Never Be Asked To Do
  • Interpret anyone's answers or tell a young person what their responses mean about them
  • Handle a difficult disclosure on your own — if something heavy comes up, you stop, stay with them, and bring one of our team over. We train you on exactly this.
  • Take a photograph of any child without a signed release in hand
This might suit you if

You are warm with children, patient with a tablet, and comfortable saying “that's a great question — let me get someone.”

Role 2 — Wellness check-ins with parents and caregivers 5 volunteers needed
  • Spanish speakers especially welcome
What You Would Do
  • Invite parents, grandparents, and caregivers to take a short wellness check-in on a tablet
  • Lead with what is in it for them — resources to take away, and programs their family can join
  • Help with the tablet, read questions aloud, and translate where you can
  • Give them something to take home and walk them to the sign-up table
  • Write down each check-in as it happens
What You Would Never Be Asked To Do
  • Interpret anyone's answers or suggest what they might mean
  • Promise a service, a place, or a start date
  • Press anyone who says no. One warm invitation, then let them enjoy their day.
This might suit you if

You are easy to talk to, comfortable approaching adults you have not met, and can hold a real conversation in a busy, noisy place. If you speak Spanish, this role needs you.

Role 3 — At the table 3 volunteers needed What You Would Do
  • Welcome families arriving at our table and point them to the right person
  • Walk families through our sign-up form on a tablet and help them choose what fits
  • Explain our programs in plain language, using a one-page cheat sheet we give you
  • Hand out flyers — always with a conversation, never as a handout to a passing crowd
  • Keep track of the giveaway items and keep the table stocked and tidy.
This might suit you if

You are organised, you like systems, and you do not mind being the person who keeps everything running.
