Overview

The Shift Supervisor provides on-site operational leadership within the RTC’s scattered site model during overnight hours. This role ensures a safe, stable, and structured environment while maintaining continuous supervision of youth and staff. The Shift Supervisor serves as the highest-level on-site leader and is responsible for crisis response, safety monitoring, staffing coordination, and overnight regulatory compliance.

Must obtain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Trainer certification within six (6) months of hire; registration required upon hire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide on-site leadership, ensuring safe operations and appropriate staff coverage.
  • Monitor staffing levels and adjust assignments to maintain required supervision ratios and operational needs.
  • Ensure accurate timekeeping, shift documentation, incident reports, logbooks, and program status updates.
  • Lead crisis response efforts, ensuring compliance with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) protocols and agency procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety rounds, maintain youth accountability, and ensure a safe and secure environment at all times.
  • Oversee implementation of AWOL/missing person procedures and notify leadership of critical incidents in accordance with agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with emergency responders, including police, fire, EMS, and medical transportation services when necessary.
  • Supervise, coach, and support Child Care Workers and direct care staff while reinforcing trauma-informed, strengths-based care practices.
  • Respond to youth needs by providing emotional support, de-escalation, crisis intervention, and ensuring appropriate daily routines.
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing staff development, including TCI coaching and facilitation as needed.
  • Promote accountability, effective communication, and seamless shift-to-shift transitions while addressing staff performance concerns appropriately.
  • Provide individual and group supervision, performance feedback, and maintain documentation in accordance with agency policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in residential treatment, special education, or similar setting
  • At least 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Experience working with youth with behavioral, emotional, or developmental needs
  • Strong crisis management, decision-making, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple sites during overnight hours
  • Valid driver’s license (NYS Preferred) with a safe driving record required
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position operates within a 24/7 Residential Treatment Program serving youth ages 12–21 across multiple sites. Staff are assigned a primary location but may be required to support other sites as needed

Position Typer/Expected Work Schedule

This is full-time, with typical hours of 3:00pm to 11:00pm(Sunday Monday off), including weekends and holidays. Staff may be required to remain on shift if coverage is unavailable and must maintain flexibility in scheduling and location to ensure continuity of care.
