POSITIONOVERVIEW
The Crime Victims Case Manager is responsible for direct service provision to victims of domestic violence. Direct services include individual and group trauma-informed counseling, criminal justice advocacy, information and referrals. Candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to issues related to domestic violence. The Case Manager will make all necessary linkages to community-based organizations and governmental agencies to provide appropriate referrals to address participants’ needs.
The NYC Family Justice Centers, operated by the NYC Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, are multidisciplinary, one-stop service centers that bring together government agencies, legal service providers, community-based organizations, and other partners to provide coordinated, survivor-centered services to individuals experiencing domestic and gender-based violence.
MAJORDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct intakes and assess needs of survivors of gender-based violence including those who are victims of crime with a client centered and trauma-informed approach.
- Deliver all identified services including safety planning, victim advocacy, crisis intervention, court accompaniment and advocacy, law-enforcement accompaniment and advocacy.
- Provide information and referrals to appropriate legal services, social services, mental health services and other related services to meet the needs of clients.
- Build and maintain relationships with local social services, legal services, and law enforcement agencies.
- Participate in various local domestic violence committees and coalitions.
- Regularly assess the safety and well-being of clients.
- Maintain digital records of direct services provided to clients and submit monthly reports.
- Community outreach and education about services available for victims of crime and domestic violence.
- Participate in training seminars conducted to enhance and develop clinical skills with the client population.
- Attend monthly individual case supervision, group supervision, monthly case conferences, and staff meetings.
- Other duties as requested based on department, program and/or organizational needs.
- Bachelors' degree in Human Services required.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Passion for URI's mission, vision and core values with the ability to communicate this passion to others.
- Two (2) years of case management experience preferred victims of domestic violence.
- Strong commitment to equity and social justice including a focus on self-awareness and engagement of continuous learning around issues of diversity equity and inclusion; high level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
- Demonstrated sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of domestic violence within and against disenfranchised communities including individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with mental health issues.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability in delivering client services including communication and listening skills, understanding of human interaction and personality development, the ability to write and record case documentation, and demonstrated skills in group counseling.
- Strong organizational skills that reflect an ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly.
- Exceptional interpersonal, critical thinking, communications and written skills, and the ability to develop positive and productive relationships.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.).
