Intro/Program DescriptionCapitol Hall is a permanent supportive housing residence for formerly homeless adults. On-site services include case management, entitlement assistance, medical care, substance abuse counseling, work readiness training, a meals program, 24 hour/7 day per week front desk security, and daily group activities.
Purpose of PositionTo deliver light case management services using a strengths-based, client-centered approach to adults in a low income building so tenants can maintain permanent housing.
Schedule14 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm
Hourly Rate$35.79/hr
Roles, Responsibilities and Essential Duties- Maintain case records with documentation of services provided and outcomes, according to specific program procedures.
- Assist clients in receiving entitlements and in understanding and complying with building rules and government subsidies to maintain residency.
- Assist with the collection of monthly rent payments from clients, and deliver rent to third party management company
- Assist with completing application packets with clients for section 8 rental subsidies, and one-shot deals
- Assist clients with re-certification of section 8 rental subsidies, and lease renewals
- Function as a primary liaison with RoCo’s management company
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with a diverse population with a wide array of needs and backgrounds.
- Develop and facilitate client workshops and individual sessions on skills and information necessary to acquire and maintain independent permanent housing.
- High School Diploma or GED required, Associates Degree Preferred
- Experience working with homeless adults and Families preferred
- Professional or academic exposure to mental illness, substance use, and/or homelessness
- Understanding of NYC housing systems and Subsidies
- Experience with motivational interviewing techniques
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Team player
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel
- Ability to use or learn computer databases
Some walking and travel by public transportation in the city.
Work EnvironmentMostly indoor office, occasional kitchen and basement setting during group activities and events.
Regular home visits to client apartments.
