CAMBA’s Community School partnership at P.S. 306

provides integrated academic, social-emotional, health, and family supports within the school day and beyond, in collaboration with school leadership, teachers, families, and community-based partners. The Community School model treats the school as a hub for the surrounding community, aligning mental health services, positive behavior supports, restorative practices, enrichment, and family engagement so that students are supported academically, behaviorally, socially, and emotionally.

Programming serves students in Pre-K through the elementary grades, with an emphasis on early intervention, positive school culture, and connection to community-based resources.

P.S. 306, Brooklyn, NY What Does the Mental Health Coordinator Does:
Compliance
  • Practice Universal Precautions/Standard Protocol & Procedures.
  • Comply with all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies to protect the confidentiality of individual health information.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all participants by following program protocols and procedures, including supervision, accident and incident reporting.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students while protecting student confidentiality.
Engagement
  • Assist in organizing school-wide activities that promote positive school culture.
  • Support initiatives such as the PBIS Store, Community Circle, anti-bullying campaigns, and student leadership councils.
  • Support school-wide initiatives that promote student wellness and positive behavior.
  • May supervise students during breakfast, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal, ensuring a safe, structured, and inclusive environment while implementing positive behavior supports.
  • Advocate for students and promote an environment where students feel welcomed, respected, and supported.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful school environment by addressing behavioral concerns, implementing restorative and positive behavior strategies, and collaborating with school staff to resolve concerns.
Social-emotional Learning& Behavioral Interventions
  • Facilitate restorative practices, SEL lessons, and therapeutic group sessions.
  • Provide age-appropriate behavioral and emotional support to Pre-K through 2nd grade students throughout the school day, helping students develop emotional regulation, positive peer interactions, communication skills, and conflict-resolution strategies.
  • Provide push-in classroom support, implement interventions, and promote a positive learning environment.
  • Design and update a monthly interactive SEL bulletin board promoting self-awareness, social awareness, and responsible decision-making.
