We are currently seeking a Full-Time Peer Specialist
. In this role, you will be assisting individuals using peer support skills to increase their self-sufficiency, self-esteem, and self-worth. They will advocate for the participants and assist in developing participants' self-advocacy skills, in a manner that supports the overall therapeutic milieu of the program.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide peer support services to all participants
  • Use lived experiences to engage participants, establish rapport and connection with participants and empathetically foster a sense of trust and overcome resistance to assistance
  • Conduct group peer sessions on skill building and development
  • Attend case conferences, discharge planning meetings to advocate for participants
  • Craft detailed progress notes on participants' activities daily, maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist participants in utilizing public transportation, attending appointments, etc.
  • Treats all participants in a respectful, trauma-informed manner to ensure a recovery-oriented environment
  • All other relevant duties assigned
POSITION RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to:

Community Service Coordinator

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Peer Certification Preferred (CPS or CRPA), but in progress Peer Certification Required (CPS-P or CRPA-P)
  • Valid NYS Driver's License in good standing
  • Related experience working with people living with mental illness or other disabilities that require assistance in day to day living required
  • Electronic Health Record Experience preferred
  • Physical Requirements:

    remains stationary for long periods of time in the office, moves intermittently throughout the office during work hours, reaching overhead, may push or pull 15-20 pounds daily, repetitive wrist/finger movement, read/write reports and use computer on daily basis, drive agency vehicle
SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm

PAY RATE:

With Provisional CRPA/CPS: $20 per hour,
With Full CRPA/CPS: $21.00 per hour

LOCATION:

Main Office, Islip Terrace, NY
