Community Associate, OPT

Position Summary

The Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) is dedicated to providing the students of New York City with safe, clean transportation. OPT is charged with administering all operational and administrative functions throughout the office. With an overall budget of $1.19 billion, OPT provides the students at New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) with safe, reliable, clean transportation.

The Community Associate, OPT will perform responsible work within community programs in OPT. The selected candidate will perform necessary and important community services and community development programs within the Office of Pupil Transportation. Performs related work.

Direct Reports: N/A

Key Relationships:
Relationships will be fostered with OPT staff, and with interested stakeholders regarding Mayoral Initiatives both within NYCPS and within other New York City agencies.

• Provides community services related to OPT’s programs and initiatives which include safe transportation to NYC students to and from school.
• Coordinates functions among community organizations leading toward successful rollouts of community-based programs to benefit NYC residents at large.
• Assists with the development of surveys to assess existing programs and plans related to student transportation and other factors of community and organizational importance.
• Assists with the rollout of major changes to school processes, including various Mayoral initiatives present and ongoing.
• Provides training to staff in techniques in program functions and performs liaison functions including the improvement of communication between City agencies, community organizations, and groups.
• Collaborates with OPT staff and management regarding OPT initiatives to ensure successful outcomes.

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
• Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of relevant work experience.

• Excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent and effective data management, project planning, and communication skills.
• Highly motivated and self-directed, with a history of success.

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
