Resource Specialist

New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, chronic illnesses, and disabilities throughout the five boroughs. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Resource Specialist (MSW or BSW) to join its Resources, Advocacy and Homelessness Prevention Program.

This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of NAC's Resource Department, learn about NYC resources and entitlements, and receive excellent supervision while working directly with our clients, both in the field and in the office. This job is a mix between direct client service and being our Grant coordinator which entails working directly with NAC Social Workers & Fiscal Department.

• Salary Range:
  • Bachelor's Level: $50,000-$55,000
  • Master's Level: $60,000-$65,000
  • Additional pay for bilingual skills and licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT & LCAT)
• Location: 825 7th Avenue, New York, NY, 10019
• Department/Program: Resources, Advocacy & Homelessness Prevention

Responsibilities:

• Flexible with a multifaceted position, this position is a combination of 3 roles:
  • Resource Entitlement Specialist
  • Client advocate
• Maintain knowledge of New York City's many entitlement and resource programs available to NAC's clients and the general population including but not limited to: HRA services, Medicaid, Social Security, Mental Health, Office of Vital Records document request, locating camps.
• Ability to meet with clients in the office and the field to advocate as needed.
• Act as an advocate in all types of courts including Criminal, Housing and Family.
• Building and maintaining relationships with community funders of our food pantry, legal assistance groups, and advocacy organizations including attending Policy meetings.
• Attend and participate in NAC Case Reviews
• Assist requesting staff to identify community resources for the fulfillment of chronic basic needs (i.e., food, clothing).

Required

Education and Experience:

• Master Social Worker OR BA / BSW with experience in the field

Required Skills:

• General knowledge of City, State and Federal Entitlement and benefit programs such as HRA (Cash Assistance & SNAP Benefits) and SSI, as well as general knowledge about NYC Housing Programs.
• Ability to recognize clinical issues that may arise
• Strong ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of personnel
• Respectful of case planning, care manager and clinical requesting staffs' knowledge of their clients' needs and issues
• Detail-oriented, diligent and timely in reaching out clients and keeping notes
• Competence with Excel spreadsheets
