Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ), a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York, seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Advocacy Coordinator to support our After-School Programs.
The Advocacy Coordinator will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children's Zone: breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty through comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that creates opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
We are currently seeking an Advocacy Coordinator to provide oversight of academic enrichment, student support, and advocacy initiatives across HCZ's After-School Programs. The Advocacy Coordinator will ensure program participants receive the mentorship, academic support, social-emotional support, career readiness programming, college preparation, life skills development, and multicultural experiences needed to prepare them for success in college, careers, and life. This role will collaborate across multiple program sites to promote consistency, quality, and positive outcomes for youth and families.

- Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Youth Development, or a related field preferred
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant professional experience will be considered
- 2+ years of experience supporting youth, families, and communities in an educational, youth development, case management, nonprofit, or related setting
- Experience developing and implementing support plans, interventions, or services that promote positive youth outcomes
- Experience building relationships with families, schools, community partners, and other stakeholders
- Experience supervising, coaching, or leading staff, interns, volunteers, or program participants preferred
- Experience utilizing data, documentation systems, or case management tools to monitor participant progress and inform decision-making preferred
- Committed to the mission of Harlem Children's Zone and passionate about supporting youth and families in achieving long-term success
- Relationship-driven and skilled at building trust with students, families, school personnel, and community partners
- A student-centered advocate who believes in the potential of every young person and works to remove barriers to their success
- Experienced in working with diverse youth populations and supporting students with varying academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs
- Strong communicator with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with participants, families, colleagues, and external stakeholders
- Data-informed and able to use participant information, outcomes, and trends to guide decision-making and interventions
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Solutions-oriented with strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable navigating challenging conversations and responding effectively to student, family, and program needs
- Able to lead, coach, and develop staff while fostering accountability and continuous growth
- Adaptable, resourceful, and effective in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
- Energetic, motivated self-starter and collaborative team player
- Build meaningful relationships with students and families to support academic achievement, social-emotional development, and overall well-being
