Hi 👋🏾 I’m Abhik, Ashby's Co-Founder and VP of Engineering. We’re looking for a versatile, persistent product engineer who’s not afraid to set up reusable building blocks across the stack and advocate for the time and space to do so. At Ashby, all our engineers ship features end-to-end at a high pace.
We have notable customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. Our growth and retention metrics are best‑in‑class among our peers: tens of millions in ARR, >100% year‑over‑year growth, very low churn, and many years of runway.
We’re on track to double this year and are building products beyond Talent Acquisition. We read every application and aim to respond within 3‑4 days.
About the RoleAs a Product Engineer, you’ll take ownership over a large portion of one of our products and own projects end‑to‑end (wearing hats traditionally worn by product and design). You’ll research competitors, write product specs, make wireframes, and more.
Extant examples of product engineers at Ashby include:
- Designed and built automated interview scheduling, solving the “Calendar Tetris” problem.
- Built a generalized declarative filter architecture that allows users to create complex filters for any record with a consistent UI and compile it to SQL in our backend.
- Specced, designed, and implemented a feature that allows users to complete signing offers entirely within Ashby, involving customer research and prototype work.
We’re addressing inefficiencies in Talent Acquisition software by building powerful, intelligent tooling that automates and simplifies tasks such as scheduling interviews and highlighting bottlenecks.
Why You Should or Shouldn’t Apply Qualities That Fit- Not afraid to tackle any part of the tech stack.
- Experienced with product and technical ambiguity.
- Balance speed and quality effectively.
- Aiming for continual skill improvement and open to feedback.
- Excellent collaborator and communicator.
- Seeking to create leverage by automating or abstracting repetitive work.
- Looking for a role focused on tech‑lead, staff, or principal responsibilities that spend most time project managing or architectural reviews.
- Requiring company‑driven process and structure such as sprint planning.
- Focused only on exciting work and unwilling to tackle customer issues.
- Prefering everything planned upfront and not comfortable taking ownership.
- Unexperienced lead/owner; relies heavily on others for direction.
- Seeking to mentor early‑career engineers in a highly senior team context.
Minimal process with ownership over decisions normally made by product and design. Natural collaboration and deliberate communication. Investing in tools and abstractions that give us leverage.
Interview ProcessOur process is designed to show your best self: past projects, pair programming, product and tech spec writing, and conversation. No leetcode or whiteboard exercises.
Three Rounds- Introduction call with Hiring Manager (15–30 min, live).
- Technical screen with pair programming in our codebase (1 h, live).
- Three non‑coding interviews: product thinking, technical design, infrastructure (3 h 15 min, live; can be split across days).
Depending on leadership bandwidth, there may be an additional 30‑min recruiter screen.
First Three MonthsOnboarding starts with a single‑script dev environment, day‑one product change, and continuous learning. Your manager will conduct 30‑, 60‑, and 90‑day reviews.
Technology StackType Script (frontend & backend), React, Graph
QL API, Node.js, Postgres, Redis. Prior experience not required; love for typed languages helpful.
- Competitive salary and equity.
- 10‑year stock option exercise window.
- Unlimited PTO with encouragement to take it.
- Minimum 12 weeks fully paid parental leave; longer outside the U.S. per regional requirements.
- Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.
- $100 / month education budget; conferences covered with manager approval.
- Top‑tier health insurance fully covered in the U.S.; supplemental insurance fully covered abroad.
