Software Engineer – HRIS & Payroll
Location: New York City (On-site)

We are an early‑stage fintech company building a new financial platform designed to expand access to long‑term wealth creation. Backed by top‑tier investors and founded by experienced leaders from leading financial and technology companies, we are solving complex problems at the intersection of financial infrastructure, payroll, and systems integrations. Our team is small, senior, and execution‑focused, operating from our New York City office.
The RoleWe are seeking a Software Engineer to join a newly formed HRIS & Payroll team. In this role, you will build and own backend systems that integrate with third‑party HRIS and payroll providers, powering critical workflows such as payroll ingestion, employee data management, and contribution processing. This is a high‑ownership role for engineers who enjoy building reliable integration‑heavy systems that sit at the core of a financial platform.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Build and maintain integrations with third‑party HRIS and payroll systems
- Design backend services to orchestrate payroll ingestion, employee census management, and deductions
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and event‑driven workflows
- Ensure system correctness, reliability, and scalability
- Collaborate on architecture, planning, and code reviews across the engineering team
- Own systems from concept through production and iteration
- Strong experience with backend frameworks, API design, and event‑driven systems
- Proven system design and problem‑solving skills
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go, Java, Kotlin, Python, Rust, Type Script, etc.)
- Experience with Postgre
SQL or MySQL - Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Experience building third‑party integrations at scale
- Fintech or early‑stage startup experience
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools
- High ownership and autonomy
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast‑moving environments
- Strong communicator and collaborative teammate
- Excited to work in an in‑office, early‑stage team
- Base salary: $180,000–$275,000
- Equity: Competitive equity package
