Sr. Backend Engineer

The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will take ownership of high-priority projects and help architect systems to support our rapidly growing customer base. This role requires someone who can work independently across the full stack using modern AI development tools, despite being backend-focused.

• Design, develop, and maintain applications using Node.js, Type Script, React, Google Cloud Platform, Mongo
  
  DB, and Postgres
• Take complete ownership of significant projects from specification through deployment
• Leverage agentic AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Git Hub Copilot) throughout the development lifecycle – from brainstorming specs to building features
• Own features across the stack, including backend services and associated front-end components, using AI agents to accelerate development
• Contribute to platform architecture and API design while making sustainable technical trade-offs
• Scale systems to support 10x growth in transaction volume
• Mentor team members and improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes
• Interact directly with customers to debug engineering issues as needed
• Experiment with emerging technologies including generative AI

• 10-15 years of software engineering experience
• Startup scaling experience (1-to-10 stage) strongly preferred – ideally you've been at a company that grew from early stage to significant scale
• Exceptional ability to learn new tools and technologies quickly – the development landscape is evolving rapidly with AI
• Comfortable with agentic coding and AI-assisted development – you embrace new ways of working and actively integrate AI tools into your workflow
• Openness to working full-stack using AI agents – while backend-focused, you're comfortable owning front-end aspects of your features with AI assistance
• Proven experience architecting and shipping complex, high-availability systems
• High level of curiosity and willingness to continuously adapt to emerging tools and frameworks
• Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in a collaborative, remote-first environment
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction while maintaining strong collaboration with distributed team
• Willingness to travel 1-2x per year for team on-sites

• Proficiency in Node.js and Type Script (strong engineers from Java/Go backgrounds also welcomed)
• Experience with React, GCP, Mongo
