Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Engineer to join our Mobile Engineering team, where you will deliver high‑quality software by developing new features, resolving defects, reducing technical debt, and continuously improving our engineering practices.
What you’ll be doing- Building clean, maintainable features and resolving end‑to‑end issues by evaluating multiple approaches to ensure effective and efficient delivery of excellent customer outcomes
- Managing and contributing to the reduction of technical debt to maintain secure, resilient and reliable systems across Legal & General’s technology landscape
- Improving and supporting team testing practices to deliver a high‑quality customer experience, with a strong focus on security, usability and accessibility
- Participating in thorough code reviews, assessing both functional and non‑functional requirements, including performance, resiliency, maintainability and security, to ensure the consistent delivery of safe, high‑quality software
- Contributing to continuous improvements in security, quality, deployment, monitoring and operational processes, enabling smooth, reliable and resilient production releases
- Engaging actively in developer meetings, sharing knowledge, communicating effectively and collaborating closely with teammates to support smooth and timely delivery within each sprint
- Developing your skills through relevant training and professional growth activities to enhance your capability and positively support team performance
- Ensuring all customers and stakeholders are treated fairly and consistently in alignment with Legal & General’s Customer Experience and Treating Customers Fairly principles
Who we’re looking for
- Demonstrable software engineering experience (degree in a technology field preferred but not essential)
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/Type Script, with expert knowledge of React and core concepts
- Solid understanding of clean code, clean architecture, design patterns, and agile practices (Scrum/Kanban)
- Proficient in software testing, including test‑driven development and the testing pyramid
- Working knowledge of CI/CD, Git/Git Flow, and modern release strategies
- Experience analysing, debugging, and delivering well‑optimised, maintainable software features
- Awareness of application security, performance optimisation, and mobile/web architecture best practices
- Strong communication skills and a track record of contributing to team improvement and codebase maintainability
