About the Role

We are hiring a Lead Software Engineer, Backend Systems to own and scale the foundational services behind a high-throughput, distributed platform.

This is a deeply hands-on IC role. You will design and build backend systems that process large volumes of data, operate under strict reliability requirements, and support critical operational workflows. You will work closely with senior engineering leadership, shape architectural decisions, and take ownership of complex systems from design through production.

This role is best suited for engineers who enjoy solving hard backend problems, operating close to the metal of production systems, and taking responsibility for systems that cannot fail.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and operate backend services that process high-volume operational data in real time
• Own core distributed systems that power ingestion, transformation, routing, and persistence workflows
• Build microservices with strong guarantees around performance, availability, and correctness
• Work with event-driven architectures, messaging systems, and data pipelines at scale
• Architect and operate cloud-native infrastructure using Kubernetes and GCP
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across services and data flows
• Partner with engineering leadership to influence long-term system design and technical direction
• Ship production systems iteratively while maintaining a high bar for reliability and quality

What We Are Looking For

• 8+ years of professional experience building backend or distributed systems in production environments
• Proven experience owning services that operate at scale with real uptime and latency constraints
• Strong proficiency in Go, Python, or similar backend languages
• Experience designing microservices, APIs, and event-driven systems
• Comfort working with high-volume data flows or unstructured data processing pipelines
• Hands‑on experience with cloud-native infrastructure and containerized systems
• High ownership mindset with the ability to drive complex problems through to production
• Clear communicator who collaborates well across engineering and product teams

Nice to Have

• Experience operating systems in regulated or high-trust environments
• Background in healthcare, fintech, or other operationally complex domains
• Experience working on platforms that support downstream product teams

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $180,000 to $290,000 USD, depending on level
