About the Role
This role sits within the Bitwise Quantitative Engineering practice. This group is responsible for the firm's investment systems that sit at the nexus of engineering, trading and risk management. If you excel at technical implementation, enjoy building robust systems under real financial constraints, and think deeply about risk, this role is for you.
Primary Responsibilities- Design and build the core infrastructure for on-chain vaults
- Implement data pipelines for positions, PnL, risk metrics, and protocol-level analytics
- Develop risk management and monitoring frameworks
- Integrate with smart contracts and DeFi protocols, working closely with on‑chain execution logic
- Build observability and alerting systems to monitor portfolio health and protocol behavior in real time
- Own the portfolio construction process and strategy outcomes
- Ensure systems are production‑grade, resilient, and auditable
- 4+ years of professional experience as a software engineer or quantitative engineer
- Strong experience with distributed systems and time‑series data
- Hands‑on experience building data pipelines and analytics systems
- Strong intuition for risk management in financial systems
- Ability to reason about portfolio construction, leverage, and tail risks
- Experience building systems with strong observability (metrics, logs, alerts)
- Deployed production code that adheres to the principles of high availability, reliability and redundancy
- An appreciation for market‑facing systems, understand that not everything can be encoded for and build resiliency to account for that
- A power‑AI user with a high bar for quality (code, thought)
- Use first principles thinking to develop logic
- Experience working across the stack (infra, backend, frontend)
- Prior experience with DeFi lending or yield protocols
- Developed algorithms to manage capital at scale within a multi‑strategy portfolio
- Background in trading systems or quantitative finance
- Experience working with crypto market data or blockchain indexing
- Prior experience running your own strategy (beneficial, but not required)
- Prior experience building investment systems (beneficial, but not required)
- Compensation: $170,000 - $180,000 + Equity + Annual Discretionary Bonus
