The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Project Controls Division, seeks a Design and Construction Innovation Technologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for advancing DDC’s virtual design and construction practice and the use of innovative technologies in DDC’s design and construction planning and administration to improve cost and schedule performance. The candidate will act as a construction technologist, staying abreast of industry trends by researching innovative technologies for construction projects and help develop related policies and procedures.

The candidate will provide advisory support to stakeholder engagements across the Agency and provide analysis, recommendations, and presentations on how innovative technology can be utilized for saving cost and increasing speed of project delivery. This candidate may work closely with counterparts in project delivery teams and support their adoption of innovative solutions.

Innovative technologies include digital delivery elements such as 3D model, Building Information Models (BIM), reality capture, photogrammetry, virtual progress tracking tools, project and construction management software administration. Responsibilities also include research and evaluation of tools and techniques involving artificial intelligence, generative design tools, and IoT devices to reduce project cost and schedule.

All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States (U.S.). In compliance with Public Law 99‑603, candidates are required to present original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC is unable to support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H‑1B visas, F‑1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type.

DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law, and is not hiring temporary employees. Candidates must have proper work authorization when an employment offer is made.

Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education‑recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full‑time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain;
  • An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full‑time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain;
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full‑time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain;
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above.
Preferred Skills

Knowledge of innovative practices applicable to design and construction, knowledge of design and construction performance, knowledge of digital delivery, BIM/VDC and reality capture technologies, familiarity with emerging technologies such as AI, knowledge of project management software, excellent problem‑solving skills, organization skills and attention to detail, excellent communication and team collaboration abilities.
