PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT OFFICER (Saving Lives Together), New York City job at United Nations Department of Safety and Security. New York, NY. The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally.
OverviewAs a global leader in security risk management principles, UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities in the most complex and challenging environments, while maximizing precious resources. Responsibilities- Develop, implement and evaluate the overall workplan for the SLT Framework globally, including the SLT Oversight Committee; monitor and analyse programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and initiate corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; ensure follow‑up actions.
- Act as the Global SLT Focal Point for UNDSS at the Headquarters in New York.
- Manage and maintain contact with the global network of SLT focal points in the field; support and respond to issues and challenges faced.
- Research, analyse and present information gathered from diverse sources.
- Coordinate policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, and prepare evaluations or other research activities and studies.
- Generate survey initiatives; design data collection tools; review, analyse and interpret responses; identify problems/issues and prepare conclusions.
- Organise and prepare written outputs, e.g., draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
- Provide substantive backstopping to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., including proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations.
- Initiate and coordinate outreach activities; conduct training workshops, seminars, etc.; make presentations on assigned topics/activities.
- Coordinate activities related to budget funding, including programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.; prepare related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
- Collect and analyse data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts and reports using data visualization methods to enable data‑driven planning, decision‑making, presentation and reporting.
- Perform other duties as required.
Professionalism, communication skills, planning & organising, conceptual analytical and evaluative skills, creativity, gender‑sensitivity, and ability to work under pressure.
Education- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field; a first‑level university degree with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
- Successful completion of degree or non‑degree programmes in data analytics, business analytics or data science is an advantage.

Work Experience- Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area.
- At least two years of experience in data analytics or a related area is desirable.
- Field experience in the United Nations Common System or similar international organisations, in conflict or post‑conflict settings, is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in operational coordination and security support to United Nations entities, INGOs and NGOs is desirable.
English is required;
French is a working language of the United Nations Secretariat.
