Senior Software Engineer – Risk Management Automation

As a Senior Software Engineer within one of Fan Duel’s Risk Management Automation teams, you will play a key role in a cross‑functional agile team that directly impacts our business. You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to implement high‑quality solutions, scope effort and timelines, and balance priorities of business and engineering needs. Your team delivers high‑quality software, and you take pride in testing, deploying, monitoring, and maintaining that software.

You will work directly with risk managers to improve automated risk‑management platforms and serve as a domain expert on automated risk implementation within the larger Risk and Trading landscape. Beyond development, you will identify opportunities to innovate through technology and adapt to evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deep experience with C# and backend systems.
  • Experience working directly with stakeholders/end users.
  • Write simple, extendable code following standards and best practices.
  • Thoroughly test code.
  • Balance customer requirements with team requirements.
  • Participate actively in code review, design discussions, team planning, and metric reviews.
  • Classify, store, and handle data in accordance with Fan Duel policies.
  • Track security risks and mitigate or escape them in a timely manner.
  • Focus on operational excellence and constructive problem solving.
  • Enhance team software and processes through software improvements.
  • Resolve root causes of complex problems, improving maintainability.
  • Train new teammates on software architecture, security, and business context.
  • Foster constructive dialogue and seek professional resolutions.
  • Recruit and interview for the team.
  • Estimate stories/tasks accurately and deliver on time.
  • Mentor and develop other engineers.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and provide customer support.
  • Keep up to date with market standards and open‑source frameworks.
  • Demonstrate self‑management, humility, curiosity, and continuous learning.
  • Creative problem‑solving ability.
  • A passion for learning and improvement.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in software engineering, machine learning, data science, or finance engineering.
  • Proficient in building services with modern OO languages; C# is essential.
  • Fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Proficient with Git Ops patterns.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (Build Kite, Git Hub Actions).
  • Experience with cloud‑based infrastructure and technologies.
  • Knowledge of AWS, API Gateway, Lambda, serverless applications.
  • Knowledge of IaC (Terraform, Helm) is nice to have.
  • Experience designing relational databases.
  • Experience with streaming technologies (Kafka) is nice to have.
  • Ability to document code, research, and designs clearly.
  • Translate requirements into design and develop applications.
  • Understanding of containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Demonstrated operational excellence and on‑call support.
  • Experience with unit testing and testing tools.
  • Experience in an Agile environment.
Salary & Benefits

The applicable salary range for this position is $149,000 – $195,300 USD, dependent on experience, location, business needs, and market demand. Benefits include medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; short‑term and long‑term incentive compensation; paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays; and paid sick time in accordance with state and federal laws.
