As a Senior Forward Deployed Engineer
, you will sit at the intersection of engineering and client impact, turning the legal industry’s most complex challenges into working software. You’ll embed with our most demanding clients, move from prototype to production quickly, and feed what you learn back into our platform and roadmap. This is not a support or solutions role with only occasional coding; you will design and build from end to end, work directly with client technical teams, and ship code that real lawyers rely on.

The best ideas you surface in the field will graduate into product features for all Clio users.

The role involves occasional travel to client sites to foster strong relationships and provide hands‑on support.

• Embed with enterprise clients to map out workflows, define clear success metrics, and de‑risk constraints before writing a line of code.
• Design, prototype, and product ionize custom AI workflows.
• Build and maintain integrations that slot into complex client environments using Clio APIs and the broader modern stack.
• Work directly with client technical teams to troubleshoot, debug, and optimize deployments in real time.
• Translate experimental R&D into stable, production‑grade code that eventually becomes a platform feature for every Clio user.
• Surface recurring patterns from the field that sharpen our product roadmap and inform how we build.

• Fix root causes, not symptoms. When something breaks in a client environment, you dig until you understand why and bring that back to the team.
• Know when to move fast and when to slow down. You can build a scrappy PoC to prove an idea in a day, and you know exactly when it’s time to harden that code for the long term.
• Operate comfortably in client conversations as in code reviews. You explain technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders, earn their trust, and then ship.
• Operate well in ambiguity. No problem comes with a spec. You’re energized by open‑ended, high‑leverage challenges and know how to define the problem before you solve it.

• Strong full‑stack fundamentals and deep comfort with RESTful APIs and systems integrations.
• Demonstrated ability to design, build, and deploy production applications.
• Hands‑on experience building LLM‑powered applications – retrieval, agents, structured outputs, prompt safety – and taking them through to production.
• Experience working directly with clients or customers: scoping ambiguous problems, communicating trade‑offs, and iterating based on real‑world feedback.
• A genuine curiosity about AI and how it applies to the legal industry. You’re not just using AI tools; you’re thinking about how they change what’s possible.

The expected salary range
* for this role is $164,100 to $193,000 to $221,900 USD. There are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency. Our salary bands are designed to reflect the range of skills and experience needed for the position and to allow room for growth  experienced individuals, we typically hire at or around the midpoint of the band.
