The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is offering a unique Communication and Collaboration Engineer Internship at its Information and Technology Management (ITM) unit in New York
. This six-month opportunity allows students and recent graduates to engage directly with a global network of over 170 UNDP offices, contributing to the organization’s digital transformation and communication systems that support sustainable development worldwide.

Internship Overview

The ITM unit provides innovative ICT solutions and support to UNDP offices globally. Interns in this programme will gain firsthand experience in technical operations, cross-team collaboration, and digital innovation in a truly international environment.

The internship offers:

Duration: 6 months (2 February – 31 July 2026)

Key Responsibilities

The Communication and Collaboration Engineer Intern will support the ITM team in maintaining and improving UNDP’s communication and collaboration systems. Core responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with telephone requests and cell phone ordering processes.
  • Supporting video conferencing services across global UNDP offices.
  • Working with ICT managers to resolve real-time video conferencing issues.
  • Scheduling and testing live conferences, software updates, and firmware rollouts.
  • Monitoring conference performance via cloud portals and addressing technical issues.
  • Participating in the integration of new sites
    , documentation updates, and training of local support teams.
  • Providing guidance and training to staff on Microsoft Teams and Zoom to improve productivity and reduce errors.
  • Developing and publishing internal documentation and knowledge base articles

The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong communication and organizational abilities along with a keen interest in digital collaboration systems.

  • Familiarity with event planning in large organizations and hybrid or virtual event setups.
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams and Zoom tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information professionally.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to multi-task under deadlines.
  • Proactive team player committed to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet one of the following academic criteria:

  • Enrollment in a postgraduate degree programme (Master’s or equivalent).
  • Enrollment in the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
  • Recent graduation within one year prior to the internship start date.
  • Enrollment in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme.

Preferred technical knowledge:

  • Networking and network security (TCP/IP, NAT, firewalls).
  • Video conferencing and cloud telephony systems.
  • Microsoft productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Scripting languages and web technologies (advantageous).
  • Data analysis and information management skills.

Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of another UN language is considered an asset.

Internship Conditions
  • Interns receive a monthly stipend based on the duty station.
  • Interns must secure medical insurance and provide a certificate of good health.
  • All travel, visa, and accommodation expenses are borne by the intern or sponsor.
  • Interns are not UNDP staff members and may not represent the organization officially.
