The Role
As a Privacy Software Engineer on the Ads Identity and Audiences team, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding Netflix member privacy across the Netflix Ads Suite. Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing privacy-preserving technologies that ensure ads are both engaging and fully respectful of consumer privacy choices and compliant with regional regulations. You will collaborate with a team of talented professionals who are deeply passionate about technology and privacy, fostering a culture that values creativity, diversity, and continuous learning.
ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop privacy features for ad platforms, protecting user data and maintaining compliance. Implement privacy protections like data minimization, encryption, and de-identification. Ensure compliance with regional privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA, CPRA). Build distributed, cloud-based applications to handle large data volumes with Spark or similar tools. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate privacy solutions into the Netflix Ads ecosystem.
Qualifications- Professional experience designing and building privacy features for ad platforms with a focus on user data protection and compliance.
- Strong understanding of data privacy, governance, and security concepts, including Privacy by Design principles.
- Experience implementing data privacy protections such as data minimization, encryption, and de-identification techniques.
- In‑depth knowledge of regional privacy regulations, e.g. GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act), and CPRA (California Privacy Rights Act).
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, C++, or similar with a strong grasp of software development principles and design patterns.
- Experience developing distributed cloud‑based applications and proficiency in modern, object‑oriented programming languages.
- Proven experience handling large data volumes with big data tools like Spark and building high‑throughput, low‑latency distributed systems.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of the ad tech and advertising landscape, including programmatic advertising and digital marketing trends.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
- Experience with Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs).
- Experience integrating with Consent Management Platforms (CMPs).
- Experience working in the CTV space and knowledge of its unique constraints.
- Contribution to ad tech privacy industry groups (e.g. IAB Tech Lab).
The annual salary range for this role is $ – $. Netflix does not offer bonuses. Employees choose how much of their compensation is salary versus stock options.
