Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.
Axon 911 brings together Prepared and Carbyne under Axon. Together, we are creating the only platform that combines modern 911 infrastructure with an AI intelligence layer—helping public safety agencies move faster, make better decisions, and deliver better outcomes in the moments that matter most.
911 is the backbone of public safety, yet the professionals behind it have long been held back by outdated technology. Axon 911 is here to change that. Joining this team means more than taking a job—it means helping shape the future of emergency response and building a safer, more connected world.
Position OverviewAxon 911's Carbyne Voice team is building the infrastructure that handles emergency calls— in the cloud. This is not a monitoring layer on top of existing telephony; it is the actual call‑handling engine, responsible for every packet, every route, and every millisecond of uptime in a life‑critical system.
As a Staff VoIP Engineer, you will help design, build, and maintain this infrastructure, ensuring that no call fails—ever. Your work will directly influence the reliability of 911 dispatch for PSAPs across the country, while advancing one of the most novel cloud‑native voice platforms in public safety.
This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of four days per week in our Manhattan office.
What You'll Do- Design and develop cloud‑based voice infrastructure handling SIP routing, call state management, and redundancy for emergency 911 systems
- Build and maintain integrations with telephony providers, PSAPs, and external partners, ensuring end‑to‑end call reliability in production environments
- Drive major features and architectural evolution of the voice platform
- Collaborate closely with operations, networking, and engineering teams to ensure system visibility, reliability, and alignment on infrastructure changes
- Participate in on‑call rotations or incident response for production voice infrastructure, given the zero‑failure requirement of the system
- Deep experience with VoIP/UC systems and SIP protocol. You have written or integrated SIP‑based applications and can speak fluently about the protocol's behavior
- Cloud platform experience, ideally AWS. You understand how to build distributed, fault‑tolerant systems in the cloud, not just in hardware‑based telecom infrastructure
- Familiarity with open‑source VoIP tools such as Free SWITCH and Kamailio. Direct experience with these is a strong signal; adjacent experience is welcome
- Comfort operating in a highly cross‑functional environment. You work fluidly with networking, operations, and product teams and communicate technical complexity clearly
- We believe this role requires someone who thrives under meaningful responsibility. Someone who understands that every call handled well is an opportunity to help, support, and ultimately save lives
- Competitive salary and 401k with employer match
- Discretionary time off
- Paid parental leave for all
- Medical, Dental, Vision plans
- Fitness Programs
- Emotional & Development Programs
- Snacks in our offices
$170,775–$227,700 USD
