etc. interactive is a well-funded, independent game studio based in New York City. We are a tight-knit team of passionate gamers building Special Authority
, a 72-player extraction-style first-person shooter built from the ground up in Unreal Engine, launching early 2027.
We are looking for a Social Media Marketing Intern to help us build an audience for the game between now and launch. This is an early role. You will help decide which platforms are worth our time, what our voice sounds like, and what we post. You will work directly with the founders, turning what happens inside the studio into things people want to watch.
Responsibilities- Represent etc. interactive and Special Authority across gaming communities day to day, posting, replying, and joining conversations from both the studio and game accounts
- Capture and edit clips of the game and our development process into short videos for Tik Tok, You Tube Shorts, X, and Instagram
- Work directly with the founders to develop post ideas, translating what we are building into content worth following
- Shape our community engagement strategy: which platforms deserve effort, what cadence works, and what our voice should be
- Grow our following ahead of launch, and tell us plainly what is working and what is not
- Help establish and moderate community spaces such as Discord as our audience grows
- 3+ years of professional game development experience as a programmer, with at least one shipped title (preferably in the shooter or multiplayer space)
- Expert-level knowledge of C++ and extensive professional experience utilizing Unreal Engine
- Deep understanding of multiplayer network programming, prediction, and replication in Unreal Engine
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and dedicated game server deployment is highly desirable
- Proven ability to architect complex, interconnected game systems (e.g., inventory, ballistics, AI, state machines)
- Self-motivated with strong leadership qualities and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical team members
This role can be performed remotely or in person from our New York City studio, whichever suits you. Some overlap with Eastern Time working hours is expected.
Term10 to 12 weeks, with flexibility around your academic calendar. We are happy to work with your school if you are pursuing academic credit.
CompensationThe expected pay range for this position is $17 to $22 per hour. The actual compensation offered will be determined in good faith based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, school-set academic credit requirements, and skills.
