About the OpportunityOur client is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to join a highly technical product engineering team focused on a cutting-edge retail technology platform that combines mobile applications, embedded hardware, and proprietary firmware. This role will play a critical part in ensuring product quality, reliability, and security across a complex ecosystem used by major retail customers.
The ideal candidate is an experienced mobile QA professional with strong Android expertise who thrives in hands‑on testing environments and enjoys working closely with both software and hardware systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead quality assurance efforts for a sophisticated Android-based retail technology platform.
- Perform comprehensive manual testing of Android applications, with Android testing representing the majority of day‑to‑day responsibilities.
- Validate functionality across multiple system layers, including:
Android mobile applications Embedded firmware Hardware integration components. - Execute test plans focused on security, loss prevention, and product reliability.
- Identify, document, and track defects while collaborating closely with engineering teams to drive resolution.
- Work independently as the primary QA owner for assigned product initiatives.
- Partner with product managers, engineers, and cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure high‑quality releases.
- Support occasional user acceptance testing (UAT), product demonstrations, and customer‑facing validation activities when needed.
- Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams, including colleagues supporting computer vision and AI initiatives.
- Contribute ideas and improvements to testing processes and future automation efforts.
- 5+ years of Quality Assurance experience, with a strong focus on mobile application testing.
- Exceptional candidates with 3+ years of highly hands‑on Android QA experience may also be considered.
- Strong expertise in Android testing.
- Experience with:
Android Debug Bridge (ADB) Android device‑level testing and troubleshooting Mobile application validation across multiple Android devices. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal day‑to‑day supervision.
- Comfortable operating in a highly technical engineering environment.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite in New York City five days per week.
- Embedded systems, hardware, or firmware testing experience.
- Point‑of‑sale (POS) or payments platform testing experience.
- Test automation experience.
- iOS mobile testing experience.
- Experience testing products that integrate software, hardware, and real‑world user interactions.
- Take ownership of QA efforts for key product initiatives.
- Ensure high‑quality releases across Android, hardware, and firmware ecosystems.
- Effectively partner with engineering teams across multiple locations.
- Operate autonomously while providing clear testing insights and risk assessments.
- Help maintain a secure, reliable, and scalable product experience for retail customers.
