Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid FAA Airman Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) License
  • Valid FAA Airman Inspection Authorization (IA) License
  • Field experience conducting maintenance on rotary-wing aircraft
  • Knowledge of FAA inspection programs, regulations, and documentation requirements
  • Familiarity with FAA Forms and Airworthiness Directive log historical record-keeping systems
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Airbus H-125 and/or Bell OH-58/206 series aircraft
  • Experience with SAFRAN Arriel 2D and/or Rolls‑Royce 250 series type engines
  • Experience with avionics, and advanced mission equipment (hoist, cargo hook, etc.)
Physical Demands

Tasks are performed inside and outside, and typically require light and heavy lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying heavy loads.

Work Environment

This position may entail time flying in agency aircraft for troubleshooting and safety maintenance. Work is performed in both a typical office setting, as well as outside in various weather conditions with noise, fumes, gases, smoke/flames or other odors.

Job Description General Statement of Job

The position of Senior Aviation Maintenance Technician is a non‑sworn position with responsibility for inspection, service, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of most aircraft features. Jobholder must meet certification and qualifications in accordance with FAA and MCSO standards. Jobholder must have the ability to work flexible hours and assume on‑call status, to include nights and weekends, dependent upon operational needs. The Senior Aviation Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Chief Pilot.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Responsibilities require consistent attention and commitment to the agency’s mission. All duties and tasks are expected to be performed in an effective, efficient and safe manner. The position of Senior Aviation Maintenance Technician must accept the responsibility to support and promote this organization’s mission and comply with its directives. Personal conduct and behavior (on duty as well as off duty) must be such that it does not bring disrepute or unnecessarily endanger the public’s trust or confidence in the agency or its members.

The position requires a dual ability to uphold the agency’s mission, goals and objectives while ensuring compliance with FAA maintenance requirements.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on multiple certificated rotary‑wing aircraft to the highest possible standards – to include compliance with FAA regulations, airworthiness directives, and manufacturer procedures.
  • Maintain and update all required maintenance records, logbooks, and historical data for multiple certificated aircraft in an organized fashion, and in compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics on various aircraft systems and components.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the duty aircraft to help ensure safety.
  • Maintain records for all contracted maintenance provided by outside vendors for agency aircraft.
  • Ensure compliance with all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and safety standards.
  • Establish and maintain an organized parts inventory for all in‑stock and military surplus parts.
  • Work with the on‑duty pilot-in-command or Chief Pilot to complete all maintenance test flights and troubleshooting.
  • Stay up to date on advancements in aircraft technology and participate in training programs as needed or required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the aircraft, hangar, tools, maintenance consumables, and personal work areas.
  • Assist the Chief Pilot with budgetary forecasting and requirements for all maintenance related items.
  • Perform any other duties as directed by the Chief Pilot.
