OverviewThis position assists the Manager in the domestic logistics operations including truck, air, and occasionally courier and hand carry/deliver. It reports exceptions and requests assistance from the Manager and other Horizon employees as needed in daily operations.
Key Responsibilities- At the direction of the Manager, process requests for freight movement directly from customers and/or internal Horizon departments.
- Coordinate specific shipments from point to point in the United States.
- With guidance of the Manager, select carriers and routing for domestic shipments including contacting airlines for information.
- Calculate volume weight and dimensions in both metric and imperial systems of measurement.
- Calculate shipping costs, determine timing, and provide that information to the requester.
- Coordinate with agents at the direction of the Manager.
- Become familiar with HAZMAT handling procedures and necessary paperwork.
- Certify for HAZMAT Class B license.
- Coordinate with peers in Logistics, Warehousing, Customs, IT, and other internal departments.
- Assist in the development and documentation of departmental policies and procedures for the Domestic Department at the direction of the Manager.
- Handle client customer service requests including billing inquiries via e‑mail and phone for shipments as needed.
- Other projects as assigned.
- 1‑3 years or more of experience in a similar or related position managing the logistics of domestic shipments.
- Able to convey information clearly verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and/or international shipping regulations.
- Knowledge of dangerous goods handling (HAZMAT) – certification a plus.
- Organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
- Demonstrated computer literacy including e‑mail and the Microsoft Suite of products.
