Brief Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Provides proactive, safe, and reliable transportation for residents and staff to medical appointments, educational programs, and community outings, while strictly adhering to safety standards, established protocols, and agency procedures.

Primary Duties To Be Appraised
  • Primary Duty:
    Provide transportation for medical clinic appointments within the agency.
  • Transport residents to local medical appointments outside the agency.
  • Provide long-distance medical transportation, including but not limited to New York City and Westchester County.
  • If 19-A certified, drivers are responsible for educational transportation, including transporting students to and from school.
  • Transport residents and staff to outings and community activities, such as concerts, shows, and community programs.
  • Ensure all assigned vehicles are pre-tripped and post-tripped, properly cleaned, fueled, and maintained in safe working conditions prior to and after each trip.
  • Complete all required transportation paperwork, including:
  • Origin and destination
  • Number of residents and staff picked up and dropped off
  • Mileage driven
  • Any additional required documentation
  • Properly log into and out of eFleet for every vehicle use.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the terminal work and break area.
  • Keep UKG records up to date, including logging time accurately and completing all required training, certifications, and classes assigned through UKG.

  • Participation in staff meetings as required.
  • Is respectful when dealing with families, visitors, residents, and co-workers.
  • Maintains professional conduct, appearance, and work performance.
  • Complies with the Agency policies, NY state, Federal and local roadway regulations.
  • Ensures all passengers are securely seated in a vehicle prior to departure.
  • Adheres to policies related to drivers’ safety, medical emergencies, and speed compliance.
  • Reports for work as scheduled, in a timely and reliable manner.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Cooperates with internal investigations and quality assurance follow-up.
  • Communicate driver needs and concerns for operational needs to supervisors.
  • Follows directives from agency leadership and supervisors.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • A transportation driver responsible for transporting residents to and from medical appointments, community outings, and long-distance medical appointments. Must possess a valid Class D driver’s license with fewer than six (6) points and be at least 25 years of age.
  • 19A-qualified driver must also hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with both Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, maintain a current medical certificate, and be subject to and compliant with random drug and alcohol testing.
  • No criminal convictions or pending convictions.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Working knowledge of computers and smartphones, passwords, emails, timekeeping UKG and e-fleet.
  • The ability to utilize smartphone and Google maps for driving instructions.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule to include all shifts.
  • Must be able to work holidays, during inclement weather, and states of emergency.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
  • Long-Distance Driving:
    Ability to safely operate agency vehicles for long-distance trips in varied and changing weather conditions.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Must have the physical strength and mobility to push heavy wheelchairs, kneel, apply vehicle handbrakes, and properly secure resident wheelchairs using tie-downs and restraint systems.
  • Ramp & Equipment Operation:
    Ability to safely operate hydraulic ramps and assist passengers onto and off the vehicle, including pushing wheelchairs up ramps.
  • Inclement Weather Expectations:
    Must be able to report to work and drive in inclement weather conditions, including times when other facilities may be closed.
  • Environmental Exposure:
    May be exposed to human elements, including bodily fluids and excretions, as part of assisting residents.
  • Protective Equipment:
    Donning N95 mask, protective gloves, and other equipment needed for you and others safety.
