Hatchet Hardware is an ACE Hardware-affiliated chain of family-owned hardware stores native to Upstate New York. The name "Hatchet Hardware" represents our intention to break the average hardware store's mold by thinking outside the box and being bold, and we have done so since 2014.
Drivers play an essential role at Hatchet Hardware. A Driver ensures the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of goods, materials, or equipment to and from stores, warehouses, job sites, and customer locations. Drivers at Hatchet Hardware represent the company on the road and during deliveries, requiring professionalism, safety awareness, and a commitment to excellent customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
● Safely operate company vehicles (cars, vans, or light trucks under CDL weight requirements).
● Load, secure, transport, and unload goods, packages, and equipment as needed.
● Follow assigned routes, schedules, and delivery instructions to ensure on-time deliveries.
● Maintain vehicle cleanliness, fueling, and minor upkeep to ensure road readiness.
● Complete and submit daily logs, vehicle inspections, delivery confirmations, and paperwork accurately.
● Assist with in-store operational needs when not on deliveries (stocking, merchandising, customer assistance).
● Communicate effectively with management regarding delays, route changes, or issues.
● Handle goods with care to minimize loss, damage, or errors during transport.
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
● Promote Customer Service as the #1 Priority during all deliveries and pickup.
● Represent Hatchet Hardware with professionalism at customer locations and on the road.
● Provide courteous and respectful interactions with customers, vendors, and the public.
● Ensure customer concerns related to deliveries are communicated and resolved quickly.
SAFETY & COMPLIANCE:
● Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company driving policies.
● Perform daily vehicle inspections and promptly report any maintenance needs, safety concerns, or incidents.
● Follow safe lifting, loading, and unloading procedures at all times.
● Help enforce overall company safety practices and serve as a safety role model on and on the road.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
● Must possess a valid in-state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
● Ability to follow routes, directions, and delivery instructions accurately.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-first mindset.
● Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively with minimal supervision.
● Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
● High School Diploma required; prior driving, delivery, or customer service experience preferred.
● Dress according to company policy.
● A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The minimum physical requirements for this position include the following:
● Ability to sit and drive for extended periods, as well as walk, reach, bend, and lift to perform job duties.
● Move and handle merchandise and equipment (up to 50 pounds) during loading/unloading and deliveries.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here represent those Driver encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Driver will frequently work outdoors and may be exposed to all weather conditions, traffic, and varying road environments.
