Location: New York

Johnstone Supply, a leading wholesale distributor of HVACR equipment, parts, and supplies, seeks a COS Material Handler/Driver to receive, fill, and ship products efficiently and ensure safe transportation of HVAC/R equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Operate basic power equipment (electric pallet, walkie rider, sit‑down forklift) safely and efficiently to locate, put away, stack, and move checked‑in products.
  • Receive product by unloading trucks using forklift, pallet jack, electric pallet jack, or by hand.
  • Inspect freight for damage, verify quantity received versus order, check against packing lists, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Ensure all required products have verified bar code labels and readable Johnstone stock numbers by scanning products, printing labels, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Fill orders by picking, packing items into cartons, and stacking them to minimize damage.
  • Document the shipment of hazardous materials by labeling cartons correctly and completing required paperwork.
  • Prepare orders by palletizing, wrapping, loading pallets and pieces into trucks, placing packing list in last skid, and completing necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain current accuracy and efficiency standards and follow all standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in inventory cycle counts and related projects in current location and/or assigned markets.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all warehouse machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following safety rules and reporting concerns to supervisors.
  • Wear protective equipment per company policies and use MSDS as needed.
  • Maintain hazardous materials, forklift, and other certifications as required.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers and coworkers, treating them with courtesy.
Driving Responsibilities
  • Maintain positive customer relationships by providing accurate and timely delivery.
  • Serve as a key field contact for gathering accurate service and delivery expectations.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and equipment in accordance with DOT, state, federal, and company standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of trucks, cabs, boxes, and assigned work areas.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle(s) and equipment.
  • Load and unload trucks; verify deliveries against sales and transfer orders.
  • Prepare routes and follow schedules for delivery, shipping, receiving, and related tasks.
  • Drive straight‑body vehicles, including box trucks, to deliver supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor for expedited delivery instructions.
  • Immediately communicate delivery, traffic, safety, or customer issues to supervisor.
  • Record sales and/or delivery information; complete manifest with pictures, signatures, and returns.
  • Return vehicle at end of day, verify fuel, complete monthly driver log, and ensure vehicle is secured.
  • Return gas receipts, monies, vehicle inspection logs, and other required paperwork.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED; 1+ years of truck driving experience (26 ft vehicle or larger) or 1 year operating Johnstone equipment/vehicles under supervision.
  • Experience operating forklift and other warehouse equipment safely and competently.
  • Preferred: 6+ months of experience in a warehouse or distribution facility, preferably in HVAC/R.
  • Experience with a picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices.
  • Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Valid drivers’ license with a safe driving record acceptable to the company; eligible to drive a commercial motor vehicle under applicable state, federal, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Forklift certification required or willingness to obtain on the job.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Utilize technology such as GPS, mobile POD devices, RF equipment, and ERP software.
  • Read, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
  • Work safely in all job tasks.
  • Operate delivery vehicles, forklift, pallet jack, and cherry picker; use lift gate safely.
