Shipping Manager

Job Summary

The Shipping Manager will lead the Shipping Team, comprising Customs Brokers, Customs Entry Specialists, and Import/Export Coordinators. The role is responsible for managing US import and export shipments, ensuring compliance with customs laws, maintaining relationships with CBP, airlines, cargo handlers, and other stakeholders, and providing leadership and development for team members.

• Develop and manage the Customs Brokerage business and an efficient Brokerage team.
• Create and implement internal processes for all brokerage, import, and export activities.
• Design effective customer solutions that leverage Customs privileges or improve existing methods.
• Ensure compliance with customs laws and regulations for BGS USA.
• Prepare standard operating procedures covering brokerage, import, and export activities.
• Prepare, process, and validate import/export documentation in accordance with customs regulations.
• Maintain awareness of customs compliance requirements through training and communication.
• Sign and submit import/export documents on behalf of clients using power of attorney.
• Provide guidance to clients on restrictions, tariff systems, letters of credit, insurance requirements, and other custom matters; quote duty and tax rates.
• Prepare entry papers from shipper's invoices and file entries with Customs; handle post‑entry work including ruling requests, CF‑28s, refunds, protests, and drawbacks.
• Manage the Foreign Trade Zone and ensure company compliance.
• Stay updated on customs changes and provide direction to the Import/Export department for optimal workflow and ROI.
• Develop and maintain key airline relationships and negotiate best air freight rates.

• 10+ years of Customs Brokerage / freight forwarding / logistics experience.
• 5+ years of experience managing a Brokerage / Shipping department.
• US Licensed Customs Broker.
• Expert experience in regulatory compliance for import/export transportation (airfreight, trucking, Customs, and other agencies).
• 3+ years proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

• Experience in freight or security transportation business.
• Experience providing efficient customer service for import/export clients.
• Expert knowledge of logistical operations, products, policies, and procedures.
• Track record of collaboration with internal and external customers.
• BS or BA in business or related field.
