Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of standard transportation methods and the operation of buses; good knowledge of the district; good knowledge of automotive repair methods and the terminology and tools of the trade; good knowledge of driving safety practices; good knowledge of New York State Motor Vehicle Law, and applicable regulations of the Public Service Commission; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates;

    ability to keep records and make reports; tact; courtesy; dependability; physical condition commiserate with the demands of the position.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
  • Possession of NYS School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) Certification and/or Possession of NYS 19A Examiner Certification.
  • A fingerprint-supported criminal history background check is required by law for employment in New York State Schools.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time paid experience involving the coordination of vehicle maintenance, and supervisory experience.
  • Must meet Genesee County Civil Service requirements for appointment to this competitive position.
Responsibilities

The Transportation Coordinator will:

  • Develop and maintain school bus routes and schedules for regular daily transportation services.
  • Coordinate transportation for public, non-public, BOCES vocational, and special education students.
  • Determine student pickup/drop‑off locations and bus turnaround points.
  • Schedule and coordinate transportation for athletic events, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate, and assist in recruiting transportation personnel.
  • Provide recommendations regarding personnel assignments, promotions, and staffing needs.
  • Assist in the administration and monitoring of the transportation budget.
  • Coordinate transportation purchasing needs with the Business Office.
  • Prepare and maintain transportation records, reports, and documentation, including State Aid reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation laws, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement student bus safety instruction programs.
  • Utilize transportation software and technology to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Attend district meetings and collaborate with administrators, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Assist with vehicle maintenance coordination and perform automotive repairs as needed.

  • Knowledge of school transportation operations and routing practices using Route finder PLUS.
  • Knowledge of New York State traffic laws, transportation regulations, and safety requirements.

  • Ability to effectively supervise and motivate staff.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community members.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and a commitment to student safety.
Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to perform duties associated with transportation operations, including standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in varying weather conditions.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $75,000–$90,000
, commensurate with experience, qualifications, certifications, and demonstrated expertise.
