Position OverviewThe Ocean Import Coordinator will be responsible for managing the end-to-end operational lifecycle of ocean import shipments. This role serves as the critical link between global suppliers, carriers, customs brokers, and domestic clients.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and execute the daily operations of ocean import shipments from A to Z, ensuring compliance with US Customs and international regulations.
- Coordinate directly with ocean carriers, co-loaders, overseas agents, and domestic truckers to ensure timely transit and delivery.
- Receive, review, and process critical shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, and Arrival Notices.
- Proactively monitor shipment statuses, identify potential delays, and implement swift solutions to minimize demurrage and detention risks.
- Provide exceptional customer service by delivering timely milestone updates and responding to client inquiries efficiently.
- Handle billing, invoicing, costing, and file closure accurately in accordance with company KPI's.
- Collaborate closely with internal customs brokerage and warehouse teams to ensure seamless final-mile delivery.
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience in Ocean Import Operations within a freight forwarding environment.
- Strong knowledge of ocean freight documentation, Incoterms, FMC regulations, and US Customs import procedures.
- Prior experience handling specialized commodities (such as beverages, perishables, or temperature-controlled cargo) is highly advantageous but not required.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with carriers and clients alike.
- High organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in industry-standard freight forwarding software (e.g., Cargo Wise, Cargo Sphere) and Microsoft Office.
