Job Purpose
The dispatcher is responsible for the weekly optimization of all assigned trucks regarding:
- Coordinate freight using the load progression workflow to direct drivers to the appropriate locations according to customer needs.
- Using excellent communication and problem-solving skills when engaging with drivers or customers to resolve shipping requirements or concerns.
- Communicating regularly with the terminal manager to ensure terminal flow and profitability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Understand the load life cycle and use the Load Progression Workflow/tools to manage the assigned terminal drivers and units.
- Able to plan future loads for drivers/equipment while maintaining weekly sales targets for the assigned terminal.
- Responsible for daily dispatch operations with a goal of managing at minimum 20 trucks per day
- Broker excess freight to carriers and sister terminals.
- Demonstrates initiative & creativity to meet metrics and goals.
- Communicate with the terminal manager:
- Dispatch plans/options.
- Issues with problem drivers/lanes.
- Load declined by driver.
- Service failures.
- Driver issues/frustrations.
- Trends in Customer Orders.
- Customer concerns or complaints.
- Broker/Carrier/Sister-Terminal concerns or opportunities.
- Communicate with drivers:
- Dispatch plans or changes.
- Breakdown status updates.
- Communicate with customers:
- Day-to-day freight coverage.
- General load scheduling and availability.
- Proficient at data entry such as:
- Planning Daily/Weekly Dispatch
- Reviewing/communicating changes to plan as required.
- Clear International Shipments with CBSA and U.S. Customs.
- Create and manage state DOT permits. Example:
Overweight Permits. - Administrative functions related to orders.
- Manage after-hours calls & problem solving 24/7 access (required).
- Meet new drivers assigned to the terminal.
- Attend terminal specific events.
- Always maintain a professional interface – always representing Page.
- Knowledgeable and supports Safety, ELD, HOS & CSA communications with Drivers.
- Works well with minimal supervision.
- Regular Attendance & Punctuality.
- Complete required Safety and Job Training.
Qualifications
- Associate degree (preferred).
- 2 years of dispatch work experience in the commercial transportation industry.
- Strong computer skills.
- Strong listening skills.
- Solid judgment and decision-making ability.
- Ability to manage time and multitask.
- Must have critical thinking skills.
- Service and detailed-oriented personality.
- Strong ability to communicate and work in a team.
- Must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test and agree to agencies drug free workplace policies.
- Transportation software experience a plus.
- Quick Learner
- Able to function in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid Driver License
