The following duties are a representative summary of primary responsibilities:
- Maintenance Worker:
- Operates a variety of specialized equipment and performs manual labor tasks to maintain safe parks, streets, and city facilities; duties vary by assignment.
- Operates and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment, adhering to safety regulations and reporting issues.
- Assists in repair and maintenance of roadways, landscaping, and park grounds.
- Digs, fills holes, patches streets, repairs roadway shoulders and adjoining areas, installs and maintains signs.
- Cleans and maintains city facilities and buildings and makes minor facilities repairs.
- Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Equipment Operator I:
- Performs all Maintenance Worker responsibilities.
- Operates and maintains a variety of tools and equipment, including chainsaw, weed eater, dump truck, backhoe, skid steer loader, roller, front end loader, mini excavator, street sweeper, and tractor in accordance with safety regulations.
- Inspects, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment; reports mechanical problems.
- Completes daily logs and reports.
- Assists in resurfacing, oiling, patching, sweeping, grading, and shaping roads.
- Performs traffic control activities and reports safety hazards.
- Uses proper safety precautions and reports unsafe conditions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Equipment Operator II:
- Performs all Equipment Operator I responsibilities.
- Leads and trains staff on equipment usage and other duties.
- Coordinates work crews, monitors task completion, and ensures safety compliance.
- Hauls materials, transports vehicles and equipment to job sites.
- Loads and unloads materials using power equipment.
- Performs skilled and semiskilled construction, maintenance, and road repair work including resurfacing, grading, and shaping roads.
- Responds to public safety and property protection during emergencies and performs traffic control as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintenance Worker: High School diploma or GED equivalent plus one year of general maintenance experience.
- Equipment Operator I: High School diploma or GED plus two years of experience operating vehicles and street and drainage construction equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Equipment Operator II: High School diploma or GED plus three years of experience operating specialized vehicles and heavy equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Maintenance Worker: Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Equipment Operator I: Valid Texas Driver’s License and ability to obtain a Class B Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within ninety (90) days of employment.
- Equipment Operator II: Valid Class A Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain a Class A CDL within ninety (90) days of employment.
- City policies and procedures.
- Basic tools and equipment used in streets, parks, facilities and grounds maintenance.
- City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Traffic laws and rules for vehicle and equipment operation.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions in using heavy equipment.
- Operation, maintenance and repair standards for motorized equipment and vehicles.
- Federal and state safety laws and regulations, including drug and alcohol testing guidelines for CDL.
- Local and regional traffic patterns, road systems, and the locations of landmarks and buildings.
- Materials, methods and practices used in street and drainage construction and maintenance.
- Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of tools and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures.
- Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to assigned equipment.
