Reporting To:
National Fleet Manager
We are seeking a highly disciplined, hands‑on Fleet Maintenance Manager to command daily maintenance operations for our commercial passenger fleet based in Queens, NY. This is not a passive desk job; it's a high‑impact, execution‑focused role requiring sharp leadership, technical vehicle fluency, and an unwavering focus on fleet uptime.
Reporting directly to the National Fleet Manager, you will lead our local technician teams, strategically prioritize mechanical throughput, and guarantee that our assets meet absolute safety, compliance, and brand standards before rolling out onto the streets of New York City.
Core Responsibilities- Shop Throughput & Fleet Uptime:
Direct all day‑to‑day operations of the Queens maintenance facility to ensure maximum fleet readiness and zero missed departures. - Personnel Leadership & Accountability:
Supervise, schedule, and coach a team of diesel technicians. Hold frontline staff strictly accountable to efficiency metrics, repair safety, and labor hour targets. - Real‑Time Triaging:
Dynamically assign and prioritize preventative maintenance (PM), diagnostics, heavy‑duty electrical troubleshooting, and emergency work orders based on live operational demand. - DVIR & Compliance Ownership:
Review, action, and close out all driver‑reported DVIRs (Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports) daily to guarantee mechanical safety. - Data & Work Order Management:
Oversee the complete lifecycle of all digital work orders, tracking labor hours, parts allocation, technician productivity, and asset repair histories in real time. - Live Driver Support:
Act as the primary point of contact for drivers experiencing on‑road issues; provide clear, composed troubleshooting support via phone and coordinate rapid‑response roadside assistance or towing vendors if required. - Shop Administration & Compliance:
Manage local shop scheduling, employee timekeeping, tool/facility maintenance compliance, and payroll‑related reporting.
- The Grid‑Lock
Schedule:
Absolute, uncompromised commitment to a permanent Thursday through Monday shift. This is a high‑volume, peak‑weekend operation. Complete dependability and responsiveness during these specific days are absolute conditions of employment. - The 50+ Hour Requirement:
This is a senior operational leadership role, not a punch‑the‑clock desk job. Successfully managing fleet throughput, DOT compliance, and a 24/7 transit network requires a minimum commitment of 50 or more hours per week.
- Fleet Management
Experience:
5+ years of progressive experience as a Fleet Maintenance Manager, Shop Supervisor, Lead Inspector, or senior‑level heavy‑duty shop foreman. - Personnel Command:
Proven track record of managing, scheduling, coaching, and holding a crew of technicians strictly accountable to repair safety, quality, and workflow productivity metrics. - Technical Foundation:
Strong preference for candidates who have a proven background as a heavy‑duty diesel technician or shop foreman prior to moving into management. Must possess the ability to read diagnostic data, audit repair quality, and confidently troubleshoot mechanical issues over the phone with drivers. - Tech‑Savvy Operations:
Direct proficiency utilizing digital Fleet Management Systems (FMS), creating/tracking electronic work orders, managing parts inventory, and navigating modern shop productivity dashboards.
- Passenger Transit DNA:
Prior experience managing maintenance operations specifically for motorcoaches, commercial transit buses, luxury charters, or shuttle fleets. (Strong background with Van Hool architectures is a major plus). - NYS DOT Passenger Bus Regulatory Fluency:
Deep familiarity with NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) passenger bus inspection regulations, safety criteria, and out‑of‑service mandates. Experience preparing an over‑the‑road passenger fleet to pass…
