Overview
Deputy Chief Bus Service Planning position within the Operations Planning department. Responsible for supervising and directing all functions and activities within the Bus Service Planning unit as they pertain to bus stops, street construction, building construction, traffic engineering and roadway design as they affect bus operations. Includes approving and enforcing plans for maintaining operability on streets affected by construction, approving design plans for rebuilt roads, streets, facilities and traffic control devices, and relocating bus routes and bus stop locations during construction.
The role collaborates with NYC Department of Transportation’s bus stop unit and others to advance bus stop changes requested by MTA/NYC Transit/MTA Bus, manages the MOU contract, and leads efforts to improve service performance through operational design. The goal is to allocate NYC Transit services efficiently and effectively and to respond quickly to changing market conditions, land use developments and traffic conditions.

Responsibilities- Supervise and direct all functions and activities within the Bus Service Planning unit as they pertain to bus stops, street construction, building construction, traffic engineering and roadway design affecting bus operations.
- Approve and enforce plans to maintain operability on streets affected by construction; approve design plans for rebuilt roads, streets, facilities and traffic control devices; relocate bus routes and bus stop locations during construction.
- Process all bus stop changes in collaboration with NYC DOT’s bus stop unit and other stakeholders to advance changes requested by MTA/NYC Transit/MTA Bus.
- Oversee the working relationship with NYC DOT’s bus stop unit and manage the MOU contract.
- Lead efforts to improve service performance through operational design, including meetings with other city agencies, local officials and contractors.
- Design and implement route paths, service and operational changes to promote efficiency, maximize new market opportunities, and improve customer and operations safety.
- Ensure NYC Transit services are allocated efficiently and respond quickly to changing market conditions, land use developments, and traffic conditions.
- Bachelor degree, major field of study in Transportation Management, Engineering, Economics, or a closely related field; or an approved equivalent including MPA, Urban/Regional Planning, English, and six (6) years of progressively responsible transportation experience.
- Three (3) years in the schedules department of a large transit authority or firm, two (2) years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Or a satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
