Job Summary

This is an Operations position responsible for supervising delivery activities. Responsibilities include management and direction to delivery staff, compliance with government regulations, and ensuring the safety and security of the delivery department.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise daily work and safety of Delivery Associates, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and planned routes while providing safe and efficient customer service.
  • Ensure delivery staff compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., DOT, OSHA) and maintain accurate electronic logs.
  • Manage labor hours and consumable supplies within budget.
  • Prepare work schedules, including extra work days and shifts as needed.
  • Oversee proper selection and utilization of company assets to support the delivery department.
  • Organize required repairs in coordination with appropriate departments.
  • Review delivery functions and productivity reporting.
  • Suggest efficiency ideas, cost‑reduction measures, and assist with implementation of delivery changes.
  • Interpret and consistently enforce company policies, protocols, and procedures, including food safety, DOT record keeping, and more.
  • Communicate with Sales Management and Marketing Associates to resolve customer or delivery opportunities and issues.
  • Visit customer locations to address issues and assess delivery difficulty.
  • Preserve associate relations through regular department or pre‑shift meetings and ongoing interaction.
  • Keep open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies.
  • Monitor associate morale and submit and respond to ideas to improve engagement and enablement.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Safety department to aid in training, observe associates, update work methods, conduct accident investigations, and perform routine safety inspections.
  • Make recommendations for disciplinary action or behavior modification when required.
  • Execute management functions of staff selection, development, discipline, performance reviews, and terminations.
  • Perform duties of supervised associates and other related duties as needed.
Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 2‑ or 4‑year college degree in Business Management, Supply Chain Management, or similar preferred.

Experience:

  • 1–3 years of related experience and/or training.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Complete a Sysco‑approved defensive driving program.
  • Haz Mat certification preferred.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver License meeting company standards preferred.

  • Collaborate effectively with peers and associates from other departments, operating companies, and corporate.
  • Resolve practical problems with limited standardization.
  • Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Present information to managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Use spreadsheet and word‑processing software and learn Sysco technology.
  • Have excellent computer skills and proficiency in English.
  • Perform basic arithmetic calculations.

Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, and sometimes stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs and push/pull up to 350 lbs.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment.
