BASE SALARY RANGE: $18.00 - $22.00 / hour (Commensurate with experience)
Job DescriptionAmbulette drivers are responsible for providing non-medical transportation to clients. They handle loading the patient in and out of the vehicle, using wheelchair lift equipment as appropriate, and keep the vehicle comfortable for the patient.
Drivers also need to comply with facility policies on patient confidentiality and on protecting their patients, their vehicles and themselves from blood borne pathogens.
Drivers are expected to be on time, professionally dressed in a pressed uniform, and friendly both to patients and to facility personnel.
Ambulette drivers keep logs of their trips that are used both for recordkeeping and billing purposes. In the event of a vehicle accident or patient incident, the driver will have to fill out reports on what happened. During trips, ambulette drivers are expected to stay in touch with their base stations via a two-way radio.
ResponsibilitiesTransport residents with various medical conditions in non-emergency medical vehicles.
Transporting patients in non-critical condition in a safe manner and to comply with facility and company policies.
Primary responsibilities include transporting patients, who are usually elderly or disabled, to their medical appointments in a safe and timely manner.

On a regular basis, must enter and exit the ambulette, which has a 15" step and 6" step, respectively.
Postural RequirementsPosture will vary, depending on the essential tasks being performed at that time and with the positional requirements at the time.
Upper ExtremitiesCan work overhead, waist or chest level, typically when driving or working with a wheelchair. Most work will be performed at waist level.
Lower ExtremitiesUsually in a seated position with a 90-degree angle for the knees, but can stand, stoop, squat or kneel if needed when performing essential job functions of wheelchair transport.
Tools and EquipmentWheelchair and strapping needed to tie down chairs.
Hydraulic Wheelchair Lift.
License and CertificationsValid NYS Commercial Driver (Minimum C class) License with Passenger Endorsement.
Valid NYS DMV 19A Medical Examination.
NYC Taxi and Limousine Paratransit Driver License.
