Job Overview
This description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. All of the above functions are normally performed within certain narrow time constraints which are usually dictated upon the actual arrival of an aircraft and its scheduled departure. The failure to perform these functions may result in passenger inconvenience caused by delayed aircraft departure and passenger and employee safety. The failure to perform these functions properly may result in serious injury to passengers, employees, damaged ground equipment and/or aircraft.
ResponsibilitiesTechnicians are responsible for the operation of the belt. Must ensure proper spacing of bags and monitor the buildup of bags on the carousels. Must ensure that the bags are aligned as required and immediately clear any resulting jams. Technicians are responsible for the manual movement of baggage in the event of a system outage. Must perform general cleanup of work areas in and around the conveyor equipment at a frequency required to maintain units free of trash, dirt and debris.
Maintainers perform semi‑skilled maintenance under the supervision of a Dispatcher or Supervisor.
- Bend, stoop, and crawl to work in tight, restricted areas. Push, pull, lift and carry components weighing up to 40‑75 pounds.
- Climb 10–25 ft. on ladders and perform duties. Must have good coordination and balance.
- Stand 60–75% of an 8‑hour shift.
- Operate the controls for a forklift or man lift (authorized employees only) in congested areas.
- Drive vehicles weighing up to 3 tons on selected assignments in congested areas requiring good depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
- Have good eyesight and be able to work with color‑coded wiring and other components, including but not limited to red, green, yellow, blue, black, brown, white, and orange.
- Work in a high noise‑level environment and tolerate dust and jet fumes (dust masks and earplugs are provided).
- Write and type legibly to complete forms/paperwork as required.
- Communicate – verbal and written – in English and be understood by others.
- Be familiar with computers and Microsoft based operating systems.
- Regulate own work with little supervision and accomplish tasks independently.
- Work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays and days off.
Help train new hires. Cleaning the Bag room, MIT & TSA areas.
