In 2010, Daybreak Independent Services opened its doors for individuals with developmental disabilities to learn and apply their skills in a traditional work setting. Since then, Daybreak has expanded its mission to multiple locations adding both people and additional services. DBIS Serves hundreds of New Yorkers living with developmental disabilities.
Partnerships with local businesses like Stew Leonard, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls have allowed the vision to grow exponentially. In addition, taking on residential programs has allowed us to serve those that need round-the-clock supervision.

Transportation Aide performs duties in the maintenance and management of the Agency’s Vehicles. In the absence of the Transportation Asst., the Transportation Aide will assume all responsibilities regarding care and transportation. This position reports to the Transportation Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

In addition to the job duties of a DSP, the Transportation Aide will be performing the following tasks:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment assigned to Daybreak Independent Services.
  • Check all vans for equipment and damages
  • Take vans to be washed twice monthly, Wash vans bimonthly
  • Take vans to the repair shop for all repairs, oil changes, etc.
  • Check key log for missing sign-in/sign-out sheets.
  • Implements and monitors a preventative maintenance program to assure cost-effective maintenance and a scheduled maintenance program to provide care by manufacturers' specifications.
  • Keeps maintenance and repair records; performs preventive maintenance on all vehicles; orders repair parts.
  • Checks all repair work performed in the shop for completeness. This includes physical inspections and road tests before the vehicle is turned back to staff for use
  • Maintains a complete inventory system by recording all expenditures and income of each vehicle, maintenance equipment, gasoline, repair parts, supplies, etc
  • Coverage and back‑up for van run to transport the individuals.
  • Perform related and other duties as required.
Education:
  • GED
Preferred Experience:
  • Minimum two (2) years of driving experience
  • Must have working knowledge in Vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to be a Team Player

The pay range for this role is:

19 - 21 USD per hour (Woodlawn - Without Walls)
