Manager – ADAS/AD Driving Features Validation
Newark, CA
OverviewLucid Motors is seeking a Manager responsible for leading a team of engineers for validation of ADAS/AD driving functions. This position requires an experienced professional with a track record of bringing ADAS systems into production.
Responsibilities- Manage, motivate & lead a team of validation engineers responsible for testing & releasing hardware/software components related to ADAS/AD driving functions for urban and highway driving (ACC, Highway Assist, Lane Centering, Lane Change Assist, Automatic Lane Change, Traffic Sign Recognition, Highway Pilot, Urban Pilot, automated driving with point-to-point navigation, etc.).
- Contribute to system architecture development and validation tests at component and vehicle level; ensure timely delivery of fully validated, high-quality customer features.
- Develop & execute test & validation plans for feature functional & performance requirements, relevant regulations, testing coverage, confirming SOTIF, data analysis, and root cause analysis with traceability to requirements.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Infotainment, functional safety, powertrain, cybersecurity, homologation, and ADAS/AD system & software) on validation activities and project execution.
- Lead feature benchmarking, calibration, and post-processing of vehicle data.
- Leverage modern processes and tools for requirements & test plans, field tests, data transfer & analysis; mentor the team to develop test automation (e.g., CAPL scripting).
- Collaborate with Tier 1 suppliers; provide execution oversight and represent ADAS validation when needed.
- Drive vehicle testing & calibration strategies with suppliers and internal teams to optimize efficiency, cost, and final quality.
- Travel to prove-out facilities as needed; perform detailed data analysis.
- Support fleet management for prototype and production validation vehicles, field testing, mileage accumulation, and data collection.
- Explore simulation, HIL, SIL, and vehicle test approaches to optimize validation strategies.
- Coordinate with component owners (radars, cameras, LiDAR) for ADAS/AD functions and contribute to requirement development.
- Investigate root causes of failures and support issue resolution.
- Mentor and develop test automation; experience with CANoe, CANape, CAPL, PeakCAN, DGPS, test benches/HILs; strong CAN and Ethernet knowledge.
- Programming skills (Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink) for integration, testing, automation, and post-processing.
- Demonstrate ownership mindset and strong communication skills.
- More than 10 years of automotive experience (OEM or Tier 1/2 ADAS suppliers) with at least 8 years in developing & testing hardware/software for ADAS/AD mass production; experience with longitudinal and lateral driving control; understanding of automotive processes.
- Experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers in testing & validation.
- Strong validation test plan development & execution for ADAS/AD driving features; experience in debugging, benchmarking, calibration, and feature bring-up.
- Expertise with ADAS testing/validation tools (Vector CANoe/CANape/CAPL, PeakCAN, DGPS, HILs) and solid CAN/Ethernet knowledge.
- Programming skills related to integration, testing, automation, results post-processing (e.g., Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Ability to work in a startup environment with unconventional ideas and constraints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ownership mindset.
- Advantageous:
Experience validating highly automated features (highway/urban pilot, FSD with point-to-point navigation); familiarity with agile tools (Jira, Jama) and issue tracking (JIRA); knowledge of automotive regulations (FMVSS, NHTSA, GSR, NCAP) and ISO 26262, SOTIF; experience with Diagnostics, UDS; HIL/SIL or vehicle simulation; broad ADAS/AD system experience; project and supplier management.
- BS in System/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 10 years in automotive engineering, or
- MS in similar fields with 8 years in automotive engineering.
Salary Range:
Base Pay Range (Annual) $180,100 - $264,110 USD.
