We are seeking a Senior Engineer – Steering Wheels / Restraint Systems to lead the development of steering wheel systems from concept through production. This is a hands‑on engineering role for someone with strong mechanical fundamentals and automotive product development experience.
You’ll work closely with cross-functional engineering, design, safety, manufacturing, and supplier teams to develop solutions that balance performance, safety, weight, cost, quality, and user experience

What You’ll Do
- Lead steering wheel development throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept and system requirements through design release, validation, production launch, and ongoing support.
- Develop specifications, support sourcing and packaging, release engineering drawings, and provide manufacturing support.
- Partner with Design, NVH, UX, Interior Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to develop optimized solutions.
- Manage Tier 1 suppliers and serve as the primary engineering interface for technical development and program timing.
- Support restraint system integration and work with CAE teams to optimize component design.
- Support crash testing, validation, and vehicle homologation activities.
- Review packaging and interfaces and make engineering modifications as needed.
- Drive technical issues through root-cause investigation, problem solving, and corrective action.
- Own engineering deliverables and help drive programs from concept through production launch.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
. - 5+ years of automotive product development experience
. - Experience with steering wheels, restraint systems, interior systems, automotive mechatronics, or related components is highly preferred.
- Experience taking at least one automotive product or vehicle program through the complete development lifecycle — concept through production launch
. - Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including:
- Mechanics of materials
- Material properties and selection
- Kinematics
- Failure analysis and root-cause investigation
- Applying engineering principles to solve complex technical problems
- Knowledge of metal forming, stamping, and plastic injection molding processes and related design considerations.
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis using ASME or ISO standards.
- Basic understanding of electronics and automotive networking.
- CAD proficiency with the ability to review packaging, evaluate interfaces, and make engineering modifications.
- Experience working directly with suppliers and driving technical deliverables to completion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
