OverviewThe Business Manager manages the day‑to‑day financial and business operational activities of the department.
Responsibilities- Plan, develop, and implement annual operating and capital budgets for the service line.
- Monitor all expenditures to ensure adherence to budget and compliance with spending controls; complete variance reports and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and implement strategies to maximize revenue while maintaining regulatory compliance.
- Identify and implement cost‑reduction activities; continuously assess financial viability of existing programs and practices.
- Perform historical data analysis of past and current years for budget preparation and funding justification.
- Work closely with Finance on long‑range financial planning and benchmarking; interpret planning into actionable plans.
- Monitor key financial indicators and provide proactive financial guidance for strategic planning.
- Establish structures to monitor variances and track financial trends, including revenue and labor expenses; provide ad‑hoc reporting.
- Analyze financial implications of proposed and existing programs and recommend improvements to systems and processes.
- Analyze, prepare, and recommend business plans for new services and programs aimed at expanding department activities.
- Collaborate with the Director on strategic initiatives focused on improving profitability and market share.
- Supervise development of comprehensive business and program plans, ensuring financial feasibility.
- Translate business plans into operational reality and evaluate the feasibility of equipment purchases and related contracts.
- Negotiate vendor contracts for equipment maintenance, repair, and other services.
- Work with Finance to ensure operational elements of revenue management, including tracking and recovering revenue and minimizing revenue loss.
- Set up audit mechanisms to track charge master and revenue management within the department.
- Monitor and ensure proper accounting of service‑line expenditures.
- Prepare monthly financial, clinical, and benchmarking reports for internal and external purposes.
- Oversee expenditures to ensure appropriate use of hospital funds and oversee favorable negotiation of contracts with outside parties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a work‑related field or discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Five years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
- Knowledge of financial systems, operations, budgeting, and analysis; statistics, forecasting, and modeling.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, administration, fiscal, and personnel management.
- Knowledge of financial and operational management information systems.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to the functional area.
- Ability to develop and administer departmental budgets.
- Ability to pursue interdepartmental process improvement to maximize financial outcomes.
- Ability to develop, write, analyze, and present business plans, proposals, contracts, and financial reports.
- Ability to use sophisticated conceptual, numerical, analytical, and statistical skills to solve complex and unique financial problems.
- Leadership and influence skills; ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
- Ability to mediate and resolve complex problems and issues.
- Ability to develop long‑range business plans and strategy.
- Strong decision‑making, problem‑solving, project management, analytical, interpersonal, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
