Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Construction

Location: Newark, DE

Division: Mechanical Commercial Construction

J.F. Sobieski Mechanical Contractors, Inc. is a $100‑million mechanical contracting company serving Delaware, southeastern PA, Cecil County, MD, and VA. We are the largest mechanical contractor in the tri‑state area, specializing in commercial HVAC, plumbing, sheet metal, and fire protection installations.

About the role

We are looking for a full‑time Assistant Project Manager to support the Project Manager and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while exceeding client expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Act as liaison among the general contractor, general manager, superintendents, and project team.
  • Generate progress reports and present findings to the Project Manager.
  • Process change orders and bill all work performed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate material ordering, delivery, and any challenges affecting contractual timelines.
  • Assist in evaluating the contractual scope of work before project commencement.
  • Order materials as required and ensure timely procurement.
  • Run and provide reports that maintain project timelines and profitability metrics.
  • Build strong relationships with Sobieski teams, general contractors, and subcontractors to promote a win/win environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, construction management, architecture, or an associate degree with equivalent work‑related experience.
  • 0–3 years of direct project experience in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, including design, architecture, interoperability, and operational sequencing.
  • Familiarity with project management software (Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Spitfire).
  • Familiarity with financial accounting systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Writer, Visio).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred certifications: PMP, USACE CQM‑C, OSHA 30.
