Position: Apartment Assistant Position

Become an Apartment Assistant

Thank you for your interest in the Apartment Assistant (AA) Position! AAs are administrative staff members who support the maintenance and safety of the University Courtyard Apartments. AAs are responsible for mail and packages, informing students about hall regulations and policies, serving in the on-call rotation, assisting with check-ins and check-outs and performing facility checks.

Responsibilities
  • AAs will be on call from 7 a.m.–7 p.m., and work a minimum of eight hours a week in the Clubhouse to handle mail, residents' issues, administrative responsibilities, etc. AAs together will do about 2–3 community-wide events each semester while continuing to support residents as needed.
The  Resident Assistant Application is Open!

Final date to receive applications Friday, December 12 at 11:59 p.m.

The AA role is rewarding, but also unlike most other on-campus employment. Information sessions, while not required, are highly recommended because they provide an understanding of the AA role. These sessions can help you ensure the expectations are a good fit for your academic, personal and lifestyle needs.

Information sessions will review both the RA and AA positions.

  • All applicants will provide a resume and answer several short essay questions. We recommend completing the questions in a Word or Google doc, then copying and pasting them into the application.
  • Consider how your participation in clubs, internships, employment and academic experiences can translate to being a successful AA.
  • Interviews take place near the start of the spring semester. Successful applicants will receive an email to schedule their interview. Please hold all possible interview times until you select your specific time slot. Email raselection as soon as possible if you cannot attend your scheduled interview time.
  • Changes cannot be made to an application after submission.
  • You do not have to currently live on campus to be eligible! But be sure you can demonstrate:
    • Active involvement in a residence hall community for at least one semester or
    • Related experience working with other students or organizations, managing conflict or building relationships
  • Candidates needing to complete intensive academic commitments (such as clinicals or student teaching) within their first year of AA employment will not be eligible.
After You're Hired as an AA
  • Orientation will be held in late April with your supervisor and fellow AA staff. AA Training is required for all staff and typically begins in mid-August.
  • AAs will work a minimum of eight hours per week and attend weekly staff meetings on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. Ensure your schedule is clear for that time.
    • If you have a major class conflict or academic-related concern, discuss this with your supervisor prior to the start of each semester.
Compensation
  • AAs receive a $2,500 stipend and apartment in UCA shared by other AAs.
    • AAs will not be able to select their roommates.
  • Compensation may affect your financial aid. Consult with Student Financial Services prior to accepting an AA position to understand how it could impact your aid package.
Other Information
  • If you want to live on campus regardless of whether you are offered an AA position, you must complete the housing application by the deadline.
  • AAs are not required to purchase a meal plan.
