Peer education plays a key role in the promotion of positive health behaviors, the prevention of chronic diseases, and the development and maintenance of resilience. The University of Delaware’s Healthy Hens provide opportunities for students to be their authentic selves, learn about common concerns for college students and how to manage day‑to‑day stressors, and develop skills that support the many dimensions of wellbeing, including healthy movement, nutrition, sleep, stress management, sexuality, mental health, social health, and advocating for one’s wellbeing.

The Healthy Hens will work closely with professional staff from Student Wellness and Health Promotion as well as partner offices like Student Health Services and the Center for Counseling and Student Development to ensure students are connected to a more appropriate level of care when needed. This role is not designed to replace professional mental, behavioural, or physical health care, but in working closely with professional staff from all wellbeing units, Healthy Hens help to ensure students are connected to the appropriate sources of care when needed.
