Full-Time, 10-month position
Position Description:
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement curricula to meet the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
- Teach content and skills in English language, literature, and composition, as well as in reading, to secondary students, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Las Américas ASPIRA Academy.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each students
- Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including conferences, to discuss student progress
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and out of the classroom by providing a safe and secure environment.
- Provide learning experiences that develop student competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Instruct students in the proper use, care and safe handling of equipment and materials.
- Provide for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment and tools.
- Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepare report cards, and keep appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
- Design and implement summative assessments to measure progress towards academic standards and formative assessments to drive instruction.
- Use assessment data to inform curricular and instructional practices.
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.
- Reflect on successes and areas of growth as a teacher, seek to improve performance, and respond to feedback.
- Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in English.
- Possession or eligibility for a valid State of Delaware teaching license (for more information on State of Delaware licensure, please visit the website of the Department of Education at: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). Code/title
