The Christina School District seeks a dynamic leader for Christiana High School and the Middle School Honors Academy. The Principal is responsible for the operation of the instructional program and for providing educational leadership for the staff, students and the community. These responsibilities include establishing a climate conducive to learning; defining roles and expectations for school staff; planning, coordinating and supervising all programs in the school and identifying needed modifications;

and administering changes that result from local and statewide decisions.

Qualifications:
  • Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as a Principal or hold out of state certification as a Principal eligible for reciprocity
  • Master's degree (as required by certification)
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

NOTE:

A complete listing of the activities of the school principal is impossible because of the many facets of the job and the variation in needs from school-to-school. Some of the activities include:
  • Provide instructional leadership to successfully implement the District and school educational objectives.
  • Develop positive school and community relations, which include effective oral and written communications to all stakeholder groups.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance.
  • Establish processes to address all student's physical, emotional, social and special support needs.
  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all students and staff for developing and maintaining a positive school climate
  • Ensure that each teacher employs the positive behavior plan including PBIS.
  • Align school resources and prioritize activities to achieve maximum results based on vision and goals.
  • Ensure that teachers are well prepared to deliver every lesson in alignment with common core standards.
  • Provide leadership that will ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement.
  • Provide leadership and instructional coaching of staff in the area of student data analysis and designing and implementing interventions for low-performing students.
  • Supervise and monitor instructional practices and student achievement data.
  • Supervise and monitor the accurate and timely completion of data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Work with the District to implement training and group professional development opportunities for instructional staff.
  • Work with diverse groups of students, staff and community.
  • Conduct staff meetings that involve staff in the discussion of instructional programs that focus on student achievements, policy changes, potential problems, and resolution of existing problems.
  • Effectively utilize support personnel, both school and area based, in the delivery of services to students and teachers.
  • Communicate with local civic and service organizations to interpret and explain school policies, programs and needs, whenever possible.
  • Select professional and supporting services staff for the school.
  • Observe and evaluate school personnel as prescribed by the Department of Education.
  • Provide all teachers with personalized professional development including performing classroom observations and walk-throughs.
  • Enforce a school discipline plan based on the Board-adopted Student Manual (Responsibilities, Expectations, Rights and Resources)
  • Works closely with District Office Departments (i.e. Business Office, Grants, Human Resources, and Payroll) to ensure all processes and procedures are properly implemented and meet all compliance requirements.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors (Director and/or Assistant Superintendent)
