Odyssey Charter School is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and culturally responsive school teacher to support student learning in a rigorous, standards-based, and student-centered environment. Odyssey Charter School is a full-scale K–12 charter school currently serving 2,500+ students. Minimum qualifications include holding a valid, active Delaware teaching license and certificate in the required content area in accordance with 14 Del.
C. § 1531. Successful completion of Praxis II exams is also required. A master's degree in content area is preferred. Proficiency in English language, both written and spoken, is necessary. Experience teaching in elementary grades in an immersion or foreign language program is preferred. Relevant teaching experience is also preferred. Experience teaching students with diverse needs, strong classroom management and organizational skills, a global citizenship and collaborative mindset, and experience working in a multicultural/multilingual environment are essential.
Essential duties and responsibilities include effectively teaching general music education to a diverse group of students in grades 3–5 in alignment with Odyssey Charter School's mission, curriculum, and instructional expectations. Planning and implementing a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, abilities, and learning styles of students. Creating and maintaining a classroom environment that is safe, inclusive, respectful, and conducive to student learning and engagement.
Preparing lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments aligned to curriculum standards and providing written evidence of preparation upon request by administration. Establishing, communicating, and maintaining appropriate standards of student behavior consistent with school policies and expectations. Assessing student progress and achievement on a regular basis; maintaining accurate records of student performance; providing progress reports as required; and communicating student progress with parents/guardians as appropriate.
Differentiating instruction and providing individualized and small-group support, as needed, to address varying student abilities, learning needs, and instructional goals. Collaborating effectively with classroom teachers, specialists, support staff, and families to support student success in inclusive educational settings. Determining and implementing appropriate pacing and instructional strategies to support student understanding and engagement in music education. Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintaining accurate, complete, and confidential records in accordance with applicable laws, school policies, and administrative regulations. Participating in school activities, faculty meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning opportunities as required. Demonstrating professionalism, reliability, effective communication, and cooperative working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and administrators. Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by administration.
